APPLE PASSES MICROSOFT IN MARKET SHARE AND DECLARES RIVAL DEAD
May 29 2010
Cupertino, CA – There are two companies that have done more than any others to add computing to the mainstream. One a hardware company, one a software company, Apple and Microsoft have been joined at the hip since they were both
founded in the late 1970’s. With similar backgrounds and similar objectives, the two companies, divergently, brought computing to the mainstream and forever changed the world we live in today. Of course the two haven’t necessarily always gotten along. Truth be told they have rarely been friendly, possessed of a kind of corporate sibling rivalry.
For many years it appeared that Microsoft was going to win that battle with billions of dollars in sales and Apple closing in on bankruptcy. It was in fact a lifeline that Microsoft sent to their sibling company that helped bring Apple back from the brink, giving it fresh cash to continue the fight. And fight they did. Consuming the music and phone industry Apple has become a giant and has now finally overtaken their old rival in market share. Though in practical terms the success is little more than bragging rights, Apple has nonetheless become very proud of their achievement and actively dismissed their stable mate and former partner, declaring them the next thing to dead in the business world.
“This has been a long, long time in coming. Everyone knows the early story of the two companies and how Microsoft essentially stole the idea for windows from Apple and that has driven the split between the two of them for decades. Steve Jobs certainly hasn’t forgotten those days and those offences and he is secretly relishing this, even though he’s playing it cool on the surface,” said an Apple insider who was fired shortly after speaking with us. “Steve is loving every minute of it and he’s basically saying that Microsoft is done. He still sees them as a major player and that our accomplishment is a great one, but now that they have a boot on their neck we aren’t going to let up. This is the end of MS.”
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has rebutted the success by Apple and declared that they will make more money than their competitor.
“This rivalry has been going back for decades and is really a deeply felt thing between

the two men at the top. In public they have gotten along and Bill Gates really doesn’t appear too worried about things but for Jobs this has always been a big deal,” said Scrape TV Technology analyst Ken Kevins. “Frankly, Apple has really wobbled their way to success. Microsoft has stayed true to their roots and expanded on the core principles for the most part. True they had Zune and Xbox but those have always been more about controlling the online space, much like Internet Explorer. Apple has made things compatible with their core devices but strayed from what they started as, though it has obviously done well for them. Whatever it takes to win I guess.”
Apple’s most recent product, the iPad, has made lots and lots of money.
“They are only doing slightly better than Microsoft in terms of market share but it’s enough to declare victory. The software market is starting to dwindle and piracy is only going to get worse which means that Microsoft will decline even further. I guess it doesn’t help when Jobs gets all his people to download copies of office from torrents,” continued Kevins. “I mean that’s really the way to do this. They need to hit Microsoft where it hurts and never let up. People will always want hardware and that is next to impossible to pirate, unless you literally pirate it, which leaves them with a major advantage and a huge point to squeeze. Now is the time to hold tight and choke them until they can’t breathe anymore.”
Microsoft still has billions and billions of dollars, apparently.
