BP EFFORTS TO MAKE GULF AN OIL FRIENDLY ZONE RIGHT ON TARGET
June 4 2010
Venice, LA – It will be decades before the full impact of the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico is fully felt and understood. With oil now starting to wash up on the shore of Louisiana the worst fears of many in the region are starting to be realized. It is of
course not just the massive economic impact on the region, not only for the damage to fisheries but also the sheer volume of oil lost, but it is the environmental impact that many is causing many to shudder.
Bringing back the images of the 1989 Exxon Valdez disaster images of dead and dying birds and fish have brought a whole new level of anger directed at the spill and its creators, BP. As the oil continues to gush the inevitability of more animals being doused in oil has angered many on all sides of the debate. However, BP executives are singing a different tune, just as they have all along. Though BP CEO Tony Hayward has come under a great deal of criticism over the perceived ineptitude of the company to stem the flow of oil, new internal documents reveal that everything has been going exactly as planned with the rate of deaths amongst the local wildlife exactly on target with estimates that had been made before a single drop of oil spilled.
“The company has been planning something along these lines all along but for obvious reasons have had to keep it quiet. Things went a little off schedule, they didn’t intend for the rig to explode the way it did but they were already a few days away from detaching and allowing the oil to start free flowing and they adjusted their schedule according to the new framework,” said a BP insider. “Basically by coating everything in oil they are able to just claim the entire zone for themselves. They don’t have to deal with fishermen or protestors or any kind of regulations as the whole area will be a dead zone. They are still going to have a challenge extracting all that oil from the annoying water but there is a plan for that as well.”
Thus far the oil has only appeared on the Louisiana coast by tidal movements should push the slicks throughout the entire gulf region.
“For years oil companies have had to share the open waters with all manner of other
beings. It’s not just the human interference, which is significant, but it is all the fish and other animals that get in the way of things. There’s all this oil sitting underneath the ocean floor and they have to use these handful of holes to get it all out. If they had room to move, they could get it so much easier,” said Scrape TV Business analyst Ken Green. “They will have to sacrifice some oil, like the stuff the reeds are soaking up or the pelicans are swallowing but the majority of it should be recoupable and from there on it will be smooth sailing.”
It’s believed that at the rate the oil is flowing it will still take up to six months before the entire southern coast of the United States is dead.
“What’s really great about oil in this use is that it doesn’t go away. When the oil gets into a marsh it sticks around and the next time a big storm hits it moves to the next marsh and on and on. It’s this unstoppable killing machine and because of that will be able to do all kinds of damage for years to come,” continued Green. “Obviously no one likes dying animals but this is oil we are talking about. By making this region a drill-friendly zone they will help to ensure low gas prices for years to come and that is worth a few animals here and there.”
Reportedly crude-prepared shrimp has become a hit in New Orleans.
