BP GETS BACK TO DRILLING AFTER CAPPING LEAK

July 15 2010

Venice, LA – For more than three months the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico has gripped the hearts and minds of millions of people. For some it is a genuine threat to their livelihood for others it is an example of corporate greed and ineptitude gone bp oil leak
awry. While those stories and others are most certainly playing out in front of the world, it is the drama itself that has been most compelling. Like many exciting stories the actual details of the tale are very much removed from the emotional engagement that most people have been feeling.

With an announcement today that the newest effort to cap the well has been successful, many were facing the real possibility that their exciting tale might be coming to an end. Though BP officials have made sure to remind people that the cap is not a permanent solution and that further work will be required to affect an end to the drama, the cessation of the oil flow has given many confidence, and melancholy, that the story might finally be coming to an end. BP though is not one to dwell on the past and have already announced a swath of new drilling projects now that they are able to finally free up personnel from the recovery effort

“It's good not to see any oil going into the Gulf of Mexico. I'm trying to maintain my oil rig
emotions. Remember, this is the start of our test. We're going to test for 48 hours and every six hours we're going to evaluate all of the information we have available,” said a BP spokesperson. “At the end of 48 hours, we're going to take the system off, go back to containment... and then we're going to get a new seismic reading off the floor. That will tell us, as a result of that testing at high pressure for 48 hours, was there a change in the wellbore, did we have oil leak into the formation and form a pocket that could be a precursor for a breach in the ocean floor, is there methane gas coming up, which could be a precursor as well.”

Collecting no moss, BP has already started to move ships involved with the capping process to new sites.

“Like any company BP simply can’t sit still. They have done serious damage to their oil worker
profitability and to their share price through this whole thing and now it’s time to get back on the horse. All of these people and ships that have been consumed with the capping are now free to get back to their real job, and that’s drilling for oil,” said Scrape TV Business analyst Ken Green. “Obviously they are not going to completely evacuate the area, the last thing they want is this thing popping open again and spilling more of that precious oil back into the gulf, but provided that the next two days go as intended they will start to be able to get back to business as usual.”

Believed to most relieved is BP chief Tony Hayward who has repeatedly expressed his frustration with the damage the oil spill has caused in his personal life.tony hayward british petroleum

“This in the end is an oil company not an oil plugger company and so this whole process has been a tough one for them. They have been stuck doing something that is the exact opposite of their business model, for good reason, but it’s still antithetical to their business model,” continued Green. “This whole thing has been a headache for them and I’m sure they and their investors just want to get back to business as usual, something that they are finally able to start doing.”

Because of the ban on deep sea drilling, the ships have begun moving to shallow water.
