OFFICIALS DEBATE LEGALITY OF NEW COCAINE CHOCOLATES

May 23 2010

New York, NY – There are perhaps no simple pleasures as desirable and sought after than the taste of chocolate. Both a tasty treat and a vaunted delicacy, chocolate has for thousands of years been one of the most beloved foods on the planet. Equally chocolate
loved by kings and peons, chocolate in all of its forms has spread from the jungles of South America to the entire world with many seeing less as a indulgence and more as a right, an inalienable human right.

Like anything though chocolate is a product of effort and the abundance of natural resources. With expanding populations consuming much of the world’s resources and territory the land needed to farm and cultivate the cacao beans that make up chocolate is rapidly eroding, leading many to fear that in a few short years that basic human right will be allocated only to the wealthy. Chocolatiers of course have taken aggressive stands against that possibility with major manufacturers securing their own fields throughout the region in an effort to ensure that production will never be halted. However even those companies have begun to realize the benefit of catering to the elite and super wealthy and at least major manufacturer, Ferrero SpA, introducing a new line of chocolates that have fallen afoul of officials in the United States for its extreme levels of cocaine.  cocaine chocolates

“Agents for the Customs and Border Protection seized a shipment of cocaine which were being trafficked into New York City. The drugs were contained inside the shell of chocolates totalling about 15 pounds in total. The street value is in the neighbourhood of $500,000,” said a spokesperson for the CBP. “Robert Lopera, a citizen of the United States, was taken into custody upon his return from Colombia on trafficking charges. We are currently in the midst of investigating other shipments of chocolates that may include other narcotics.”

CBP officials have not stated whether or not they have been in touch with officials from Ferrero. Officials for that company did not return a request for comment.

“In Europe cocaine chocolates are fairly commonplace but in the U.S. it just hasn’t chocolate cake
really caught on. Even regular consumer chocolates contain some elements of coke inside the filing but it is the high end candies that really have a kick. Ferrero has been placing balls of cocaine and other drugs inside Rocher and other chocolates for years but I guess have simply not sought permission to sell them in the U.S.,” said Scrape TV Business analyst Ken Green. “Whenever a person brings product from another country they are going to have to expect that they could potentially run afoul of the law. Many countries restrict food, plants, and flowers from entering into their country for a variety of reasons and it appears that this is what happened here. Obviously he was unaware that the cocaine chocolates were simply not allowed in the country.”forrest gump

Colombia is the only country in South America where the chocolates are legal, strictly speaking, though most officials turn a blind eye in other nations.

“Ignorance of the law is never an excuse for breaking it. Of course the company has a responsibility to warn people that the product might not legal for export or trade. I doubt that issue will come to much but this could inspire them to seek permission to sell the chocolates in the U.S., at least on a limited basis,” continued Green. “Obviously there is an audience and with the appetites of Americans I imagine that anything chocolate would sell really well. They’d have some legal obstacles to overcome but this is food after all, coming into the United States so I’m sure both sides would be eager to make a deal.”

Heroin toffee has been widely available throughout Florida for years though other states have yet to approve the product.
