VATICAN TO CLOSE CHURCH BROTHELS
March 8 2010
Vatican City – Like all human institutions, religion has been a constantly evolving system. From the earliest days of tribal beliefs to explanations of how the world worked by the Ancient Greeks and Romans, to modern religions which have explored
much deeper and more complicated issues such as the nature of self, religion has been constantly adapting. Of all modern religions there is one that is more complex and more influential than any other, Christianity, which has spread to every corner of the globe and helped to form some of the most powerful countries that have ever existed.
Christianity, outside its incredible influence, is also unique in a great many ways. One of its most compelling creations has been the centralized governing body in the form of the Vatican. No other religion before or since has created such a powerful body as the Holy See, no other religion has created an institution that has served as the official voice of the people,
determining policy and policing her subordinates. More like a government than a
religion, the Vatican has held incredible power over its people and been an example for all other religions. Like the faith it protects however, the Vatican has been forced to change as the modern world has caught up with its tricks. Whether fighting sex abuse scandals or birth control, the Vatican has had to change. Now the See is ending one of its more controversial practices, putting an end to officially sanctioned male prostitution.
“This has been a particular monkey on the back of the Vatican for a long time and now they are finally dealing with it. Unfortunately it had to come out in a police investigation, but now that it has been revealed, they are going to fully embrace the changing environment,” said a Vatican insider. “There has been
this growing belief inside the church that a lot of policies are simply going to have to change but they have been hesitant to face these things head on. Generally, they wait until it goes public and becomes an embarrassment before reacting but officials are starting to realize that that simply doesn’t fly anymore. It hurts, but they are going to have to change and that starts with male prostitution.”
The most recent controversy revolves around a police investigation into Angelo Balducci, a close aide to the Pope who was involved in directing the prostitution ring.
“Very few people outside of the Vatican itself realize the prevalence of things like this inside the church but it is common, and now it has been exposed for the whole world to see. This has been the biggest problem with the Vatican in recent years. Things that they have been doing for centuries are simply not acceptable and instead of putting a stop to them, they hide them, poorly in most cases,” said Scrape TV Religion analyst Bertram Gas. “I mean look, prostitution in prostitution and while some people will be upset by it, most are angry because they have lied so poorly. I’m sure if the Vatican embraced male prostitution the rest of the Christian world would follow, but like always they just waffle.”
Female prostitution is widely available throughout Vatican City and Rome, though is rarely used by Church officials.
“I’m sure more than a few people were happy when they heard about this, but then the Vatican played its old games and became indecisive. That is eventually going to frustrate followers to the point where they will reject the church and possibly the religion entirely. People want to believe, they just want something responsible to believe in,” continued Gas. “Prostitution is a good example of an area where they could modernize. It’s becoming more acceptable across the world and if they took on this issue directly they would be at the cutting edge, making themselves relevant again. I fear however that that will not happen and things will go back to the way they have always been.”
Reportedly, the Vatican is also considering destruction of their numerous hemp fields across Italy.
