BROOKE SHIELDS FINDS NEW PASSION, LUST FOR LIFE IN LA-Z-BOY COMMERCIALS
January 14 2011
Los Angeles, CA – For most people childhood is a time of innocence, a time of learning about the world, and a time that when reflected upon tends to bring strong and potent emotions. Usually those memories were of easier times, when the
pressures of adulthood were totally foreign, and when the vast majority of things were simply taken care of, leaving you free to play and enjoy life. For some though childhood isn’t such an innocent time, it is a period filled with far too much adult life to ever be a period of innocence.
Case-in-point is the early life of Brooke Shields whose working life began at the tender age of eleven months and has rarely ceased since. Throughout her childhood, Shields’ life was burdened by the pressures of adulthood in one of the most pressure filled industries in the world. While outsiders certainly looked at her life with envy, particularly the wealth and fame, Shields suffered a lost childhood like many young stars and though she has not suffered the same follies as many of them, still lost something most of us take for granted. Despite that early start however, Shields has never become a true star, more famous for being famous than for her work which has spanned modeling, acting and spokesperson. Now though Shields appears to have finally found her footing, starring in series of ads for La-Z-Boy, something she feels her entire professional life was geared towards accomplishing.
“I think everyone I knew growing up had a La-Z-Boy recliner in the house. We’d be watching cartoons or whatever and if Dad came home, boom, out of there. That was the Dad chair. So it’s funny that my family’s favourite place to sit is made by La-Z-Boy too,” said Shields. “That is why I’m so passionate about it. It brings families together and gives us comfortable places to sit. That can’t be said about too many things and that is something I am proud to bring to people.”
Shields signed a multi-year deal with the company back in November.
“La-Z-Boy brings people together, brings lives together and in today’s world where families are fractured, where people are separated from their loved ones, we need more of that. There is no better image of togetherness than a family sitting around in La-Z-Boy furniture with one another. If the world could just have a little bit more of that it would be a better place and I am so glad to be able to bring that to people,” continued Shields. “No project that I’ve ever been a part of before brings me the kind of satisfaction that my work with La-Z-Boy does. Not ‘Suddenly Susan’, not ‘Pretty Baby’, not ‘Blue Lagoon’, not even my appearances on ‘Hannah Montana’. This is the most satisfying work I have done in my life and I am so proud to bring this to the world at large.”
Shields last movie was ‘The Boy who Cried Werewolf’ which was also apparently not as satisfying as the La-Z-Boy work.
“I personally had a La-Z-Boy chair for a long time and it was comfortable for a little while but it does seem a little overrated. I mean its fine and everything but there are better chairs and couches out there,” said Scrape TV Business analyst Ken Green. “I can’t see how bringing Brook Shields into the advertising campaign will bring about the change they are obviously looking for but I guess they know their business. I mean usually you have a celebrity people are interested in in some capacity but maybe that isn’t necessary. I don’t know, I mean who cares really, its chairs.”
Shields will apparently not be naked for the ads.
