GREEK CHURCH PROACTIVELY WORKING TO KEEP THE ANTICHRIST OUT OF THE COUNTRY

Athens, Greece – Throughout the Bible there are a few mentions of something called the Anti Christ. In literal biblical terms that term simply refers to an individual who does not follow the teachings of Christ but in the 2000 years since those documents
were first written it has taken on a different meaning. Now the term refers to an individual whose birth will portend the end of days, the final battle between Heaven and Hell with humanity caught in the middle.
Despite those indulgences, those alterations that have occurred throughout time, the belief that the end is nigh has become a pervasive part of religious doctrine., so pervasive in fact that many feel it is not only likely, but imminent. Of course the more religious a people the more powerful that idea has become and in the majority Christian nation of Greece, which is also suffering serious economic and social distress, the fear has become palpable with the announcement of new ID cards to be issued next year. While social activists are concerned about privacy issues related to the ID cards, it is the numbering system that has religious authorities concerned with many fearful that the number of the beast, 666, may start to appear, making that person the one, true Antichrist.
“In no way should the 'citizen card' contain the number 666, either in visible or 
invisible manner. The Church is obliged to protect personal freedom and defend the integrity of the faith. The mark of the best cannot be allowed in our society, it is a mark of the end of times and something that we simply cannot allow,” said the Church of Greece in a statement. “By acknowledging the beast we give him power and that cannot be allowed. His sole purpose is to destroy the world, to bring terror and fear to the streets, and to challenge the kingdom of Heaven and this is something we cannot allow.”
The church has also opposed bar codes and is apparently not too fond of numbers in general.
“One small passage in one book in the Bible mentions these numbers yet they have taken on a life of their own. They have become something profound and powerful that affects every aspect of Christian belief, particularly in the Greek Orthodox church where it has become a central part of the ideology and the practice,” said Scrape TV Religion analyst Bertram Gas. “The logic though is slightly flawed. For one, if this being does come into existence what makes them think that by simply having another number on his ID card that they will have saved the world? Could he not forge any number he liked? The second concern would be that if the number did come up, and this person was indeed the Antichrist, then he would be much easier to identify with one of these cards. The logic of this really falls apart in that light.”
The Church was apparently not interested in the incorrect person being labelled as a minion of the Devil.
“This is another one of these areas where religion and state blend in ways that can be a little awkward. This is why the separation of Church and state can be a good thing because it removes debate, removes argument, and does away with these kinds of arguments that can confuse the issue,” continued Gas. “What the Church should be focussed on is fighting the Antichrist when he arrives, not preventing some numbers from appearing on a card. If he is here to put an end to everything he isn’t going to care what is no his card, he’s going to do whatever he wants to do. Converting people to the side of the Lord should be their focus that will do him in better than anything.”
It’s still not clear when the end of times are due to arrive.
