JEFF ZUCKER SCREWS UP DINNER FOR WIFE AND KIDS
September 27 2010
New York City, NY – Rarely does a television network executive garner the kind of attention that Jeff Zucker has had over the last year. Truth be told, few TV viewers would even be able to name anyone working at any network aside from Zucker. The

reality is that the position is totally unlike those held by people such as Steve Jobs or Bill Gates. In those cases, the faces of those companies are also the creators and principle brain trust behind them, whereas in television executives are merely hired guns.
Jeff Zucker however has been another case entirely. His tenure at NBC started normally enough, working his way up through the corporate ladder before finally landing the top job. From that height though there was nowhere to go but down, and down was exactly where he went, taking the network with him. It was on that downward slide that Zucker started to become famous, placing himself in front of the camera on multiple occasions, making him the face of the network, a network that was of course failing. By the time the debacle over the ‘Tonight Show’ hit full steam Zucker was omnipresent and the face of the controversy. That resulted in the inevitable late last week with the announcement that he was being replaced, and now comes word that Zucker, likely saddened and lost, has screwed up family dinner plans at least twice since agreeing to step down as President and CEO.
“On Saturday it was a planned outing for the whole family at Sardi’s but he cancelled at the last minute. I mean it’s really hard to get those reservations at he literally cancelled at the last minute. The family was apparently just getting into the Jaguar when he called them to cancel,” said an NBC insider. “On Sunday it was a similar story. Sunday was always his night to cook for the family. He burned the garlic bread and way overcooked the pasta. Apparently it was horrible and two of the kids, I believe it was the two youngest ones, asked to be excused before dessert which was just a store bought pecan pie. It’s really sad.”
Zucker reportedly ate White Castle drive through on Monday. It’s not clear what his family had planned.
“This is really a sad case all around. I mean it’s very clear that Zucker tried hard to
make this whole President thing work but it just didn’t happen. It’s clear he was a talented guy and he had a lot of success early on but in the end everything fell apart,” said Scrape TV Family Values analyst Marge Hendricks. “That has a big impact on a person, especially on a person who falls from one of these high ego positions. They have accomplished what others can only dream of and lost everything in an incredibly public and embarrassing way. That has a devastating effect on a person’s ego and can impact the way in which they deal with others, particularly their family.”
Zucker has four children with his wife of fourteen years, Caryn Nathanson.
“Unfortunately in these types of situations it is the children who suffer the most. The friction that inevitably occurs between the parents trickles down to them and in many ways can deeply impact their psyches, particularly if they are young as these children appear to be,” continued Hendricks. “In these cases it is the responsibility of the parents to put aside their personal issues and do what’s best for the children. He may have suffered a huge ego blow but he needs to set that aside in dealing with his family and move forward like an adult. That means things like family dinners, though without burned garlic bread.”
It’s believed that the garlic bread was merely a result of the oven rack being too high and not symbolic of something deeper.
