RECESSION BRINGS GLUT OF PROSTITUTION TO NEVADA

September 17 2010

Moundhouse, NV – It has often been said that prostitution is the oldest profession in the world. While such a claim would be difficult to prove there is little doubt that the profession has been around for a long time. It does, after all, provide a much sought prostitute car
after service to a very eager buying public. The service that prostitutes provide is something basic, elemental even to the human condition and so it is perfectly logical to assume that people have been earning money from it for a very long time indeed.

Despite that, there are few places in the world where the profession is legal. In fact, in most countries only select areas allow for the practice to be solicited, creating a whole underbelly, a black market everywhere else. One of the most famous places that allows this revered profession is the state of Nevada which supports the industry in certain areas of the state. While such a corner on the market would seem like a dream for most businesses, many brothels in the state are finding it more of a curse of late. The recession has prostitute
changed the industry dramatically by pushing many more women into the profession, creating a glut of workers in a time when the demand is at its lowest point, leaving many to wonder if the era of the working girl may in fact be over.

“Normally we’ve got a handful of girls working here but now we are packed to capacity. Some girls are sharing rooms and one even sleeps on the couch. It’s too much really but we feel obligated to bring everyone in. I mean you never know what people are going to want,” said one brothel owner who preferred to remain anonymous. “The problem is that people just are taking as many trips and when they do they are looking for deals. Often we have to give them those deals because otherwise they just walk away. They see how much product we have and they know they can get away with undercutting us. It’s really not a good spot to be in.”

The sheriff’s office in Mondhouse has been reporting record levels of licence applications over the last year.brothel prostitute

“It’s forcing us into situations where we are sending two or even three girls with one client for cut rate prices. Even then, we still run into issues with the talent complaining about their cut. We know that once the economy picks up we will be in a good spot but until that happens we are in tough,” continued the owner. “Right now we are in the position where we have to put out fires constantly in order to keep the talent happy. That’s a necessity because we want the girls to be happy and to stick around once things pick up but we need to keep them around and in check until then. It’s a strange time to be in the business, the strangest time I’ve ever seen.”

There are 28 brothels in the town, most of which have notices stating that they are not hiring.

“Nevada is in strange spot because they are the only place in the country, a country of old west brothel
300 million people, where these services are legal and so people flock to the area in droves, or at least they did before the hard times hit. That has made the state the go-to place for this kind of business on both sides of the equation,” said Scrape TV Business analyst Ken Green. “Like any business its supply and demand and when supply outstrips demand you are running into bad territory, risky territory. This is an industry that will never lack for demand eventually but in the mean time you end up running a deficit and that can cause problems if it goes on for too long. Hopefully things will perk up.”

Nevada state officials, many of whom frequent the brothels, have declined to expand legalization to other parts of the state despite the money it brings to the region.
