AL-QAEDA INSIDERS SAY AL-ZAWAHIRI MAY BE HOSTILE TOWARDS THE U.S.

June 21 2011

Washington, D.C. – For many, the war against al-Qaeda is over. For them, the killing of Osama bin Laden was the goal of the war and with that accomplished, the battle has ended. Immediately after the al-Qaeda leaders death there were calls to pull out of osama
Afghanistan and to end the conflict which has cost billions of dollars and thousands of lives. That didn’t happen though, and the war rages onwards as the most destructive terrorist organization revamps and modifies itself to a new reality.

A big part of that transition was the naming of a new leader, which happened last week. Most people assumed the co-founder Ayman al-Zawahri would take control of the organization and that’s exactly what happened. Now, al-Qaeda is pushing forward in a new world with a new head to the snake, and are potentially as dangerous as ever, meaning that any calls to end the war will likely fall on deaf ears. That reality was potently reinforced this week with information that the new al-Qaeda leader actually bears a great deal of animosity and hatred towards the United States, something which could potentially mean not only no relief from hostilities but also an escalation under the new regime.

“I think that there is also a cultural dimension that makes us believe that, compared to his predecessor, Zawahri’s actions are going to be more violent, and this was clear from his latest videotape, where he hinted about the start of a new era of confrontation. He does not like the United States and this long war, along with the god bless america
killing of bin Laden, will likely only aggravate those tensions within him. It is fair to say that Zawahri has a grudge against the United States,” said Tawfik Hamid of the Chair for the Study of Islamic Radicalism. “His feeling towards the United States are deeply held and personal. I think that it is entirely possible that he will seek revenge, or as it is called in Egypt ‘atar’. He very much does not like the United States and that is a very dangerous trait in the leader of an international terrorist organization.”

It’s believed al-Zawahri’s hatred for the United States stems from childhood trauma.

“We are very much entering into unknown territory here. With bin Laden things were a certain way, there was a certain stability and the world had gained a sort of peaceful co-existence with al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups, but that has changed now,” said Scrape TV Terrorism analyst Doug Davids. “Al-Zawahri is a different man than bin Laden and has a different view of the world. He runs things differently and has a lot of anger, which could easily translate into aggression. This confirmation that he does indeed hate the United States could lead to disaster, particularly because of his new position.”

Al-Zawahri has not officially taken control of the organization but will do so in a ceremony in Pakistan early next month.

“I would imagine that since bin Laden’s death he has been functionally in charge and is Ayman al-Zawahiri and osama bin laden
doing much to run the daily operations. He has likely started to position himself amongst his subordinates and has begun deciding the direction for the organization which, it appears, will be heavily directed against the United States,” continued Davids. “This is certainly not good news. I’m sure that most people would have liked to have gone back to pre-2001 life following the death of bin Laden but it appears that things may be even more dangerous now that they have someone who doesn’t like the United States in charge. That could make them really dangerous indeed.”

Al –Zawahri apparently also doesn’t like Norway or Bolivia.
