COCAINE STILL DOING BOOMING BUSINESS IN HOLLYWOOD

August 1 2011

Hollywood, CA – For the better part of a decade coke was king in Hollywood. The white powder came to be synonymous with the Hollywood lifestyle, so much so that a cavalier attitude towards the drug started to appear as stars and power players made deals over lines.drug deal

As much as Hollywood, and the world, has changed in the last two decades, coke has not. In Hollywood, where traditions die hard, coke is still king. Mega-corporations with share holders, new drugs, none of those seem to matter to Tinsel Town. In Hollywood, coke still does a booming business.

The recent implosion of Charlie Sheen was oft pointed to as an example of how wrong drug use can go in Hollywood, but for many in the drug industry it was the best advertisement possible, a free celebrity endorsement, and now many dealers and manufacturers are using that as a platform to reintroduce coke to the mainstream.

“Charlie was great. Just great. He showed that coke still had relevance in Hollywood, that it wasn’t this drug that had disappeared and that it was still relevant. True, Charlie is from that era and is an older guy, but he appeals to young audiences and that is a good thing,” said one local manufacturer. “People just assumed that coke was out, irrelevant, passé even but Charlie brought it back, at least to the people. It’s never really slowed in Hollywood.”

A 2008 report showed a dramatic decline in the use of cocaine by young people, something many in the industry hope to change.charlie sheen crazy

“Things really haven’t changed in Hollywood. I was around for the heyday and I can tell you that sales haven’t dipped. People don’t wear it as openly today, there are no bowls of coke on executive’s desks anymore, but they have them in drawers. That hasn’t altered demand on bit,” continued the manufacturer. “I’m selling to older stars and to younger people. I’m selling to people who weren’t even alive in the 80’s and that really says something. Hopefully they will help us bring it back to regular people.”

Recent cocaine headlines include not only Sheen but also Paris Hilton and the recently deceased Amy Winehouse.

“I still sell out regularly. I’ve got a group of people who only come to me because they know I got the best stuff and they always pay top dollar. I can’t keep the stuff in my pockets,” said a Los Angeles dealer who asked to remain anonymous. “They know I got the best stuff and they keep coming back to me. I actually saw a spike after the Sheen thing. It was great. I don’t really care if it goes main stream again, that might only bring in lousy dealers, but if it happens it happens.”

The dealer stated specifically that he does not sell to Sheen, though has apparently had interactions with his ex-wife Brooke Mueller who apparently buys from just about anyone.lindsay lohan nicole richie

“Coke will never truly go away in Hollywood. It’s as integrated into the lifestyle as fast cars and loose starlets. That is Hollywood and there’s no reason to expect it’s going to change anytime soon,” said Scrape TV Health analyst Rebecca Phelps. “I doubt it will go main stream. People love movies and all but they don’t have the cultural influence they once had. Its things like Facebook that influence people’s behaviour now and we all know how much they love the date rape drug. That’s the way things are going for now and for the future.”

Ketamine is also becoming popular in Hollywood, though far from coke-level sales.
