HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS VYING FOR BIG SCREEN VERSION OF TERRORIST TAPES

April 28 2011

Hollywood, CA – Hollywood is nothing if not eager to grab hold of new trends. The success of the ‘Twilight’ films for example has spawned hit TV shows like ‘True Blood’ and ‘Vampire Diaries’ as well as big screen ventures such as ‘Daybreakers’. Real world the vampire diaries
events often inspire the community as well as directors, producers, and studio executives try to find the next big thing in an environment that often rewards the familiar rather than the innovative.

Now studios, once hesitant to address the issue of global terrorism in entertainment form, have begun looking at the global conflict as a new opportunity to explore previously ignored subject matter as well as appeal to a rand new audience. It is with that in mind that, at least according to reports, a number of studios have begun their own terrorist hunt. The studios though are not hunting terrorists in order to help secure global peace or help put an end to religious extremism, but to sign them to long term deals and secure the rights to the terrorist threats that see broadcast throughout the world. With every major studio sending representatives into the wilds of Afghanistan and Pakistan, and more recently Yemen, it appears that the tale of the terrorist tapes will soon be unrolling on the big screen very soon.

“This is ‘the thing’ right now. Everyone is making noise about throughout the town and I think it’s going to result in some very interesting projects in the near future. All the major studios and a handful of independent producers have been flooding into the region trying to find the people responsible for these recordings and I think very soon Ayman al-Zawahiri tape
there will be a success,” said a Hollywood insider who preferred to remain anonymous. “Obviously everyone wants bin Laden but he’s going to be hard to snag. I think most studios would be more than happy with lesser level terrorists which realistically would give them more leverage when it comes to negotiations.”

Reportedly, both Paramount and Fox rushed into Yemen following the 2009 Christmas Day bombing attempt, despite no videos from that country as yet.

“A lot of directors are already circling these projects. I know for sure Ron Howard is all over this idea and has been making a lot of hay talking about how this could finally be his Oscar. I’m not sure which particular video he’s circling but Imagine has already started pre-production on one film despite not having the rights yet,” continued our insider. “The biggest concern is of course that the military will get to these people first and, likely at least, kill them before the studios can nail down a deal. That is adding a lot of fuel to this particular fire and could cause a lot of issues between the State Department and the Studios, the kind of friction that could end a relationship.”

At least two studios, Sony and Warner Brothers have had little success in their efforts to have the military participate in their hunt for waivers.osama bin laden tape

“The truth is these movies could be huge. I mean they could be little, well-respected movies like ‘The Hurt Locker’ or they could end up being blockbusters. There’s really no end to the possibilities but there is a risk that they could end with a glut of films that would kill the enthusiasm for the projects,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “The important thing is that they put the projects in the hands of the right creative people. No one wants to be the first to screw up a terrorist movie.”

Osama bin Laden, aside from being very difficult to find, is reportedly making outrageous requests for his participation.
