POSTHUMOUS BIN LADEN RECORDINGS BECOME BIG HIT

May 30 2011

Washington, D.C. – There are some people who, for no apparent reason, have such an impact on society that few are unwilling to believe they are gone. Easily the most prominent of such persons in Elvis Presley whose legend has lived on for decades tupac
following his death, with many people insisting he is still alive and, for some reason, looks exactly the same. The type of urban legend has also affected other pop figures – Andy Kaufman, Kurt Cobain, Tupac Shakur – despite the overwhelming evidence of their demise.

What that has also meant is a continuing interest in the work they did in their lifetimes. While Presley, Cobain, and Shakur were major artists in their time, something which ensured long term success, even Kaufman, a cult comedian by any standards had a major movie made of his life. It is safe to assume that their continued success in death is directly related to people’s refusal to accept such, perhaps totally unrelated to the quality of their work. After all, few would argue that Elvis was Beethoven. For whatever reason, this obsession over deceased icons continues their legacy far into death, something which appears to already be happening to Osama bin Laden who, now a month dead, has started to grow in popularity with his recordings becoming bigger hits now than ever and an industry starting to form around the legend.

“We have seen an increased demand from all over the world for everything bin Laden. At first it was things celebrating his death, T-shirts and the like, but it has taken on a osama bin laden speaking
totally different feel now. There is a kind of post-death irony attached to things now and his stuff has started to become in demand,” said a U.S. government insider. “We don’t feel that there are any recordings still out there waiting for distribution, but we are receiving nearly daily requests for the footage we were able to get from his compound. I think that is going to become a very valuable commodity in the near future.”

The U.S. seized a reportedly massive amount of data from bin Laden’s estate. It has only released a few small clips of videos, all without audio.

“Obviously this material has important intelligence attached to it and isn’t something which we are planning on just releasing to public because there is demand for it, but there may come a time when we see it released to the public, just not right now,” continued the insider. “There is no ill intent here, nor any desire to kind of milk the legacy for long term profit. Right now, it would be unreasonable to release this material but eventually it may make its way to the fans. For now, though they will just have to patient and enjoy what they have. And don’t build up your hopes too high, most of the best stuff has already been released.”

Tupac has released eight albums of original material since his death. There have been similar releases from Nirvana, Elvis, and John Lennon.elvis bust

“There is always going to be shock when something like this happens, and it could very well be that shock which brings about so many unbelievers, which in turn bleeds its way down into pop culture and transcends generations. People have a hard time believing big things when they happen,” said Scrape TV Media analyst Sarah Piper. “There’s no way to predict which things will take off. Look at Heath Ledger, a known but not popular actor whose death shocked the world and made his final movie into a massive hit, despite no one really being much of a fan beforehand. There is no rhyme or reason to this. Bin Laden could very well have a much bigger legacy in death than in life, an Elvis of the Arab world. It’ll be interesting to see where this turns.”

There have been reports, since denied by the Pakistani government, that the former bin Laden compound in Abbottabad will be turned into a tourist attraction along the lines of Graceland, a place bin Laden himself had reportedly longed to visit.
