SIX FLAGS EXPRESSES INTEREST IN NEW EUTHANASIA ROLLER COASTER
September 21 2011
London, U.K. – There is nothing quite like the thrill of nearly dying while all the while knowing you are perfectly safe. In any kind of extreme activity that possibility of death, the sort of commune with the beyond, is certainly a major part of the appeal.
While some things, like base jumping or cliff diving, are certainly more risky than others, millions of people test fate every year as they climb onto roller coasters across the world.
The appeal of roller coasters is universal, finding them in nearly every country on the planet. Those ultra fast clanking metal machines seem to speak of doom and gloom just by their very existence, but of course they are mostly safe. Mostly. That is certainly not the case with the euthanasia coaster.
Designed by PhD candidate in London, the new coaster has what is easily the most extreme loops and descents in the world, motions that will not only thrill but also kill, perfect for people looking to kill themselves. Already the coaster has received a great deal of attention not only for its abilities to end life, but also to draw in an oft-ignored segment of the population for one last ride.
“The rider has a few minutes to contemplate his decision and his life in retrospect. He would find enough time to adapt to the height and get through a series of imaginary fatal falls, while realizing that the objects on the ground are getting smaller,” said designer Julijonas Urbonas. “The slightest movement of the car would trigger intense

heart-beating and goosebumps and most importantly it would test your decision. Therefore the very top of the tower is an ideal place to give the very last word.”
The kill shot would come from the peak of the coaster which drops 1600 feet, putting 10 Gs of force on the body which will, in all instances, kill the occupants of the car.
Thus far, the coaster has not been built but already it is drawing attention from major theme park companies including Universal and Six Flags in the United States.
“It’s something we are certainly interested in but we have to investigate it further, look into costs and benefits and legalities and the like,” said an insider for Six Flags. “We really like it. This is a segment of the population that has really been underutilized by the theme park industry and we feel that it is potentially very lucrative. Plus, we will have given these people a good time in their last remaining moments, and making money through people having fun is exactly what we do.”
Only a handful of people have died at Six Flags parks and all of them by accident.
“It’s an emerging market and something that we feel could do really well. Particularly with the economy the way it is, and our prices don’t help that very much, we feel like there could be a huge audience out there. I mean they are going to go anyway, they might as well spend a few bucks with us before they do,” continued the insider. “We may try it at one or two parks and see how it goes. If it’s a success, we can go from there. Personally, I won’t be trying it. Well, that’s assuming my wife and I get back together of course.”
Urbonas claims to have interest from a number of countries but only one, Japan, actually has the legal clearance to install a coaster of the height required.
