SONY FACES FRESH HACKING ATTACK AFTER PLANS TO BUILD GIANT RAINBOW REVEALED
July 17 2011
Los Angeles, CA – When Sony had its PlayStation servers hacked few months ago few people gave it much credence. It was, after all, only affecting a few nerds, people with whom most people had little in common. Even casual gamers were only marginally

affected and in the end, there were only a few thousand people who had been compromised. Even though it was the biggest corporate hacking in history, it was almost forgotten about almost as soon as the servers went back online.
That dismissal, though, is perhaps the most dangerous thing that happened in the whole ordeal. That hacking showed the vulnerability of the systems we have come to depend on every day, systems which are integrated more and more into modern society. The Sony incident only affected video game players, but the incident showed the potential for more important systems to be attacked and compromised, something which inevitably will become more of an issue going forward. Now it appears that Sony itself has become a victim again of the rage of hacktivists after servers related to their movie division were hacked following the announcement of a giant 94 foot rainbow being constructed in Los Angeles which has raised the ire of activists who apparently believe that rainbows should be free for everyone rather than a select few.
"This is only the beginning. Sony has once again stepped into a realm they have no business being in. Sony has fallen afoul of the rights of all good people. These attacks

will not stop until this monster is stopped. These actions, this sickness, must end once and for all,” said the group currently attacking the company. “Rainbows belong to everyone. They must be free and accessible to all people and not just a certain elite. We will not rest until Sony understands how wrong these actions are and until they begin to change their behaviour.”
The metal rainbow is being constructed on a Sony back lot, the same one where ‘The Wizard of Oz’ was filmed. The hacking has apparently slowed down access to various sites promoting Sony films. The company had no comment on the apparent attack.
“Admittedly the rainbow does seem like a slightly silly idea, though these back lots have always been a tourist draw. I would imagine this is just that, just something to draw people onto the studio tour rather than an effort to gain some kind of monopoly on rainbows, metal or otherwise,” said Scrape TV Business analyst Ken Green. “They are just replicating the look of a rainbow and, at least so far, haven’t applied for any kind of intellectual protection for rainbows in general, no patents or trademarks. Unless that happens, I would bet that this hacking effort will kind of fall away. It doesn’t seem to have the cultural power or the technical prowess of the previous hacks.”
Users have reported wait times of up to five seconds while waiting for Sony websites to load.
“Frankly, I don’t think this will significantly impact Sony’s bottom line. I mean we will have to see when trading starts again on Monday, but I doubt this will have any kind of significant effect. I also doubt it will prevent the company from building the rainbow, they learned a lot the last time around,” continued Green. “I expect the rainbow will rise high above L.A. for a long time to come and these hackers will probably get what’s coming to them. That is unless Sony does actually try to take over all rainbows but I doubt that will happen. That kind of thing probably wouldn’t go over very well on Wall Street.”
*update* Sony servers now appear to be back to normal.
