UNDERGARMENT EXPLOSIVES INDUSTRY TAKES BLOW IN YEMEN STRIKE

October 3 2011

Washington, D.C. – It appears, pretty clearly, that Yemen has become the frontline for the war on terror. Only days after Al-Qaeda figurehead Anwar al-Awlaki was killed in a drone strike, it was revealed that accused terrorists were taken out in the same attack.Ibrahim Hassan al-Asiri

Ibrahim Hassan al-Asiri may not be the most prominent name in the terrorist world but he was still a valuable target for the U.S. military. Much of the reasons for that have to do with his particular area of expertise, underwear bombs, which he helped to innovate.

Al-Asiri, it is believed, designed the underwear which nearly destroyed Flight 253 in Detroit back in 2009. It’s not clear what impact his death with have on the underwear bomb making industry.

“He is among the dead. It really was a coup for the war. Both of these guys don’t have the notoriety of some of the more high profile people but they were really dangerous and the war is in a better place because they are dead,” said a Pentagon insider. “There is a concern that they will become martyrs now but that isn’t something that we can worry about. We can’t decide policy based on things like that; we would get nowhere.”underwear

It’s believed that al-Asiri was a major influence on a generation of bomb makers despite his youth, only 29, and that his death may spark a renaissance of undergarment bombs.

“That first major effort failed, it failed because of design and because of execution but it became clear that this was an opportunity for them. It’s strange that we really haven’t seen much of that in recent years but, unfortunately, we may now,” continued the insider. “Al-Asiri had a small but loyal following and I imagine they will be eager to avenge him and the best way to do that is to continue his work. He was very passionate about underwear, from what I understand even before his bomb-making days. For him it was a collision of two loves and his followers realize that and will want to honour him and so we will have to be vigilant.”

Al-Asiri reportedly made his own underwear as a child. He was also caught more than a few times rifling through his parents drawers.underwear model

At seventeen he was caught stealing underwear from a store near his home. It’s believed that arrest is what pushed him towards the terrorist lifestyle.

“Victories in this world are never clear and decisive. There is always blowback and this will be no different. Unfortunately if there is a rise in attempts because of this there will have to be new security precautions including no underwear on planes. It’s hard to tell if that would make al-Asiri happy or sad,” continued the insider. “Hopefully there won’t be too many repercussions as a result of this. Personally I like wearing underwear on planes, but I guess we all have to make sacrifices in this world.”

It’s not clear if al-Asiri was wearing clean underwear at the time of his death as his body was blown into pieces.
