HILARY DUFF NOW BEING PAID TO NOT MAKE MOVIES

Los Angeles, CA – Stars come and go all the time. The next big thing is quite frequently the next big nothing. That is just the nature of the fame game. There are no guarantees and nothing secure. As big as you might be one moment, you might be nothing the next. Fame is extremely fickle.
In the moment, however, it’s tough to see that end result. For Hilary Duff and her fans that time has most certainly come. Years removed from her peak, Duff has been largely absent from the public recently. Though she appeared in nearly everything just a handful of years ago, now things are a little less potent for the hyphenate star. Now though Duff appears to have found a new niche; being paid to not appear in movies.
“Hil really wanted to be in the movie, that’s why she signed on in the first place, but her personal life takes priority. She is thrilled to be with child and while it’s sad that she won’t be able to be in the film, she is ok with it,” said a spokesperson for the actress after she dropped out of a ‘Bonnie and Clyde’ remake. “She is fully focussed on her life, her baby, and her husband. Movies will come again, but babies only happen once. She wishes the production well.”
Duff was paid $100,000 for the film in which she didn’t work a single day, something she has apparently mastered over the last few years.
“Duff has been attached to a number of movies over the last few years and done none of them, not because she doesn’t want to but because she has found this new avenue for making cash. These pay-or-play deals really are great for her,” said a Duff insider. “She has signed deals for so many movies and not appeared in them but still gotten paid. She frankly doesn’t understand why more people don’t do the same thing. I mean she has made a lot of money the last three or four years and all she has needed to do is sign contracts and then get fired. It’s the easiest work she’s ever done.”
Pay-or-play deals are common with top tier talent in Hollywood, essentially earning them a portion of their salary if the project fails to come about.
“She has done like a dozen of these deals and has done really well because of it. She has just had this knack for picking projects that fall apart and she has raked it in as a result. This one was on the verge of happening, which is why she got pregnant. She just narrowly avoided that one,” continued the insider. “Ideally she would like a situation where she didn’t even need to leave the house to sign the contracts, but she has resigned herself to that particular inconvenience. That is something she is willing to tolerate for now.”
It’s not clear how many contracts Duff will be able to sign while pregnant.
“She hopes this will continue for a little while longer, at least long enough for her to save enough for her kid’s college tuition. That would be great, so long as she doesn’t have to work,” continued the insider. “And with her husband not working all they have is time together. She really learned a lot from him. Injury, ineptitude, pregnancy, they are all great ways to get out of a contract that would make you have to work. She’s so happy she found it.”
Duff’s husband Mike Comrie is an oft-injured NHL player.
