New York, NY – Love is never an easy thing, even for people who have just about everything come easily to them. In fact, it could be argued that celebrity couples, people who simply don’t need to worry about the daily troubles that most people have
to struggle with, are actually at a disadvantage. Aside from the media spotlight, they simply don’t have the struggles that regular pairings require to make their bond stronger. As there are for regular people, celebrity couples have many things that can interfere with their love, but often the pressure is ratcheted up to a different level.
That pressure is no doubt part of the reason that one of the more famous of celebrity pairings, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, announced their split on Friday. On the surface the pairing seemed perfect; both singers, both New Yorkers of Puerto Rican descent, and both with a history of failed marriages. There seemed, on the surface anyway, to be nothing but things in common for the pair but ultimately they still ended up apart. Whatever the cause of their separation it appears that the couple is on a path to divorce, leaving Lopez free to not pursue her career anymore and Anthony to do whatever it is he did before he married Lopez.
“It’s a sad day to be sure but it was inevitable. They both realized that it was heading towards this eventually but it just took awhile before they decided to pull the trigger. They both have a great deal of affection for one another, they did share a lot of years together, but ultimately they realized that the marriage had died a long time ago,” said a Lopez insider. “Right now they are focussed on what’s best for their kids, to help them through this tough time. There is no real anger or animosity between the two of them. They feel like they can get through this with very little grief.”
The couple married in 2004 and have twins, Emme and Max.
“Jen really wants to get through this quickly so that she can move on. She feels like this is really an opportunity for her rather than an obstacle. This is just one more chapter in her life, not the end of the book. She’s very excited about moving forward and spending her time being famous for having been famous. It’s a life that she has really come to enjoy,” continued the insider. “Marc will be okay as well, probably. I mean he’s continued to sing and he’s still got some of his fans and so he’ll be alright, at least financially. He really pushed the end of this marriage more than her. He really wasn’t that into it anymore. Marc is really excited about the future too and has been really excited about the future. He’s also been oddly excited about gay marriage becoming legal, though that is probably unrelated to the split.”
Gay marriage was made legal last month in the state.
“This is one more of those Hollywood splits. They seem to happen more often with celebrity couples but, bluntly, they happen quite frequently with normal people as well. The only major difference is that everyone pays attention to what celebrities are doing and don’t really care what normal people do, which makes those splits seem more prominent,” said Scrape TV Family Values analyst Marge Hendricks. “Ultimately this one probably doesn’t matter. I mean Lopez isn’t the star she once was and Anthony never really was star, plus he’s probably gay so this one just makes sense I guess. I don’t know, probably the most boring celebrity divorce in years.”
Reportedly the children haven’t really noticed much a difference since split.
