KANYE WEST CONFUSES HIMSELF WITH HITLER AGAIN
August 8 2011
London, U.K. – Kanye West has been, from his first appearance on the scene, one of the more eccentric of performers. His outbursts and cockiness have been the butt of jokes and been tolerated, partly because it’s amusing and partly because he does
have the talent to back up his claims. However, it appears that even Kanye has gone a little too far this time.
Speaking in England before the ‘Big Chill’ music festival, West once again lashed out at his critics by stating that he was as misunderstood as two other prominent pop culture figures, Michael Jordan and Adolf Hitler.
“I walk through the hotel and I walk down the street, and people look at me like I'm f**king insane ... like I'm Hitler,” said West. “One day the light will shine through and one day people will understand everything I ever did.”
That latter sentiment was of course very much a mantra of Hitler, who believed firmly that his legacy would justify his actions.
“I doubt that very many people would argue that Hitler was all that misunderstood.
Perhaps in the early days of his regime, but not once the war started and certainly not now. I think most people pretty much get Hitler,” said Scrape TV Historical analyst Lars Luger. “He was a pretty bad guy and not someone with whom most people would associate or sympathize, but I guess Kanye is one of those guys. I don’t know who is thinking he is like Hitler, but I guess if he gives enough people a reason to think that they will.”
Hitler ordered the killing of more than 15 million people of various ethnicities. It’s not clear how many people West has killed.
“The Michael Jordan thing makes a little more sense, for Kanye, but I don’t think that many people associate Jordan with Hitler. That seems a strange trio, but I guess if that’s how people are seeing West then that’s how they are seeing him,” continued Luger. “I guess not everyone thinks he’s like Hitler, at least not yet. I mean he was welcomed into England after all. I guess the real test would be Poland.”
West will next play in Austria, a country which has never been able to resist his power.
“Look, West is a potent pop figure and he is going to be remembered after his death, so long as people still listen to music at that point. I sincerely doubt though that they will look on him like they look on Hitler, or even Jordan. They made their mark in different areas and at different times and that really does matter. West has made a mark, but how long lasting and widespread it will be is something totally different,” continued Luger. “Hopefully he doesn’t play too much into the Hitler comparison. Being too heavily associated with that man he is likely to lose more than a few fans. For the sake of his career it’s probably best not to be associated with Hitler or any Nazi for that matter.”
Following the show, West apparently went on a gambling spree across Europe.
