LARRY CROWNE FAILS TO BREAK THROUGH TO THE ADULT DIAPER DEMOGRAPHIC

Hollywood, CA – Hollywood is full of successes and failures. Sometimes those successes surprise even the most seasoned of vets, as do the failures. Sometimes movies or stars come around that blow away all expectations, and sometimes they 
come along are stun the crowd with their ineffectiveness and failure. As practiced as Hollywood has become at creating hits they still have not been able to figure out a magical formula that works every time and when it fails, it can fail hard.
That is something that two of the biggest stars of yesterday felt last weekend. For a time, there were no bigger stars in the world than Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks. Combined, the two have been responsible for more revenue than the GDP of many countries. For the better part of three decades their names were seen on marquees and movie posters all over the world and their presence meant a sure return on the investment. However that hasn’t been the case for a long time. The duo have started to see lower and lower grosses for their individual projects and now, in what would have been a blockbuster pairing a decade, their new movie ‘Larry Crowne’ failed to ignite at the box office, landing fourth and failing to capture even the not-particularly coveted adult diaper demographic.
“It’s a serious flop. It’s not so much that the movie will lose money because it was cheap but the biggest problem is that it shows the inability of the pair to draw 
audiences anymore. Not only will the failure sour the movie-going public against them it will also sour studios and investors. They aren’t bulletproof anymore and that is going to limit future projects,” said a Hollywood insider. “There was a hope that they could grab the older crowd, the crowd that used to go to movies all the time but which now just sits in most nights and watches American Idol. Unfortunately they didn’t do that, proving that either their star power is diminished or that older audiences just don’t want to be away from their personal toilets for two hours.”
The running time for the movie is 99 minutes, plus previews and commercials.
“This shows, I think better than anything, that there is a new crop of stars that has taken over the imagination of the public and that these older celebrities are just going to go away. Either that or they are just going to have to make movies for older people shorter and screen them away from younger people to make the target audience a little more comfortable,” continued the insider. “I’m sure both Roberts and Hanks will get another shot at the big time, well Hanks at least, but things have certainly changed. It’s pretty obvious that this movie didn’t really appeal to anyone, never mind the audience for which it was intended.”
Polling showed the audience was predominantly over the age of fifty. 
“It’s possible this was just a one-off, that people just weren’t interested in this move because it looked really, really boring, but the best and safest thing to assume is that this kind of movie with these kinds of stars are just a thing of the past and that they should stop trying, at least until they want to reboot things and try again,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “I don’t mean reboot the ‘Larry Crowne’ franchise because the best thing would be to just to forget this whole thing happened. If you put them in cold storage for a decade or so maybe you can bring them back, provided their target audience isn’t dead or not allowed to leave the home to go out to the movies.”
Polling also showed that most viewers complained that the sound was too loud and that the air conditioning just ran and ran and ran.
