M.C. HAMMER ENDURES THE VENGEFUL WRATH OF JUGGALO NATION

Detroit, MI – There was a time, and some will remember this, when M.C. Hammer was the biggest musical act in the world. When he hit the big time, the really big time, Hammer was everywhere. His clean and accessible music, a contrast to the gangsta 
rap and politically charged music that dominated rap music at the time, and his very baggy pants was everywhere. Though he gained scorn from his peers, he sold millions and millions of records and brought rap into the mainstream for the first time.
It was ‘Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em’, released in 1990, that really vaulted him into the world. With 18 million records sold as a testament to his success, that album was inarguably one of the most important in modern music. For that time and place, Hammer was all there was. He was the man for his time. Eventually though, as it always does, his time came to an end and Hammer slid into the graveyard of musical history. The changing landscape of music, particularly rap, left Hammer and most of his peers, including those who hated him, as little more than skeletons, things heard about but not experienced. For Hammer in particular the path to recognizing his new position in the world was challenge, resulting in bankruptcy, multiple lawsuits, and a brief stint as a Pastor. Now, in a world that has largely forgotten him, Hammer appears ready to reinvent himself again, though this time he may be putting his life on the line to do so.
“The Juggalo nation does not permit or condone this. We tell M.C. Hammer that his appearance is not acceptable and will not be tolerated. Appear at your own risk,” said
a spokesperson for the Juggalos, the rabid fans of Insane Clown Posse. “We have shown foreign invaders in the past what will happen. Those were warnings just to show that we were serious. Now the warnings are over and we are ready to make this happen. Hammer better not show.”
The threats were a result of an announcement that Hammer would appear at the 2011 ‘Gathering of the Juggalos’. At last year’s event, Tila Tequila and Method Man were pelted with rocks and beer cans.
“The Juggalo culture is an interesting one, but one that really resists outsiders. M.C. Hammer is very much an outsider, and not only because of the colour of his skin. That certainly plays a role, but it the entity that he represents that is really so threatening to Juggalos,” said Scrape TV Psychology analyst Dr. Sarah Welp. “They have built this world of their own and someone like Hammer, who represents big music, simply isn’t allowed into the club. His music isn’t naturally a part of Juggalo culture and he has been such a mainstream artist that it’s impossible for them to accept him.”
It’s not clear how many albums Hammer has sold in recent years, but it isn’t a lot.
“True, Hammer hasn’t been a big artist in two decades but many of the Juggalos 
aren’t old enough to have seen his decline. That is important. They didn’t see him fall from grace, they just know the entity that he was in the past and that was a big star. For all they know he could have been in retirement,” continued Welp. “It’s all about perspective and when you aren’t in someone else’s shoes it’s very difficult to see things their way. For old fans of Hammer it’s very clear that he isn’t a mainstream star anymore, but for the Juggalos that isn’t so obvious. I’m not sure what is obvious to them, but that’s another matter altogether. He won’t be accepted and like many such subcultures he will likely be attacked when he enters. Unfortunately, that could mean the end of Hammer forever. Juggalos don’t not forgive or forget.”
Hammer has reportedly appealed to Faygo to provide personal security during the show. Faygo officials have not responded.
