SARAH PALIN MOVIE FALLS TO HARRY POTTER IN FIRST WEEKEND

July 18 2011

Hollywood, CA – Movies tell a story. Sometimes they tell a love story, sometimes a happy one, sometimes a scary one, and sometimes a thrilling one. People go to the movies to hear a story, whether it’s a fantastical tale or a real life saga, people seek moviegoers
out a good ripping yarn. That desire to experience a tale has always been a part of the human experience, from our early days in stone caves to the darkened multiplex caves of today. We gather together, huddle around a warming light, and listen to a story being told.

That probably explains a great deal as to why movies have become so popular, easily the most popular creative medium ever created. For all the affection people hold for literature or music, neither of them possess nearly the same popularity of that film enjoys. Film speaks to us on some core level, reverberates with us in a profound way, which makes it the perfect medium to get a point across.

As long as film has film has existed people have been using to try and tell their point of view, occasionally masking it in a story, but always underlying the tale is a specific sarah palin undefeated
viewpoint they are trying to get across. Those efforts first became widely known, obviously, with the work of Leni Riefenstahl whose propaganda films for the Nazis showed for the first time the real manipulative power of film. Later filmmakers such as Michael Moore would also employ similar techniques, albeit in a slightly muted form, but ultimately people lust after stories, and propaganda simply doesn’t hold the power to enthral in the same way. That is something Sarah Palin and her supporters learned the hard way this weekend as her film played to half-empty houses, failing to conquer the mainstream in the wake of the tsunami that was the final Harry Potter film.

“We are disappointed to be sure but we are all trying to keep our heads up. We knew we were in tough, we know how popular Harry Potter is, but we thought that at the very least we had effectively counterprogrammed. We are going to have to rethink our strategy a little bit,” said a producer for the film. “I mean we weren’t in nearly the same number of theatres and that played a role, but our per-screen average wasn’t great and that is a little upsetting. We are hopeful that word of mouth will carry it and people will get out to the movies to see a real movie, our movie.”

‘The Undefeated’, a documentary about Palin, grossed a little under $30,000 dollars. The latest and last Harry Potter film grossed more than $160 million in North America alone. harry potter and the deathly hallows part 2

“I would imagine that this is about the end of the run for ‘The Undefeated’, put bluntly. They averaged a little under $3000 per screen which is barely enough to compensate for the cost of light bulbs. I imagine that the few theatres showing the film will dump it pretty quickly after those kinds of results. It’s really got to be a bitter pill for the Palin camp to swallow, losing out to a foreign heathen like that. Perhaps it shows how far her influence has really diminished,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “Who knows, maybe it will do well on DVD but its pretty clear that the movie didn’t break through. I imagine that with this kind of reception we won’t be seeing a sequel anytime soon, though that’s probably the case with Harry Potter as well. I guess in that respect they are in the same boat.”

Palin herself was unable to understand the final box office tally.
