WESLEY SNIPES SETS UP POST-PRISON PROJECTS
August 14 2011
Bradford, PA – At his height, Wesley Snipes was one of the biggest stars in the world. That height didn’t last for very long, but he did have it and through much of the 1990’s Wesley Snipes was a name you could count on. Eventually people tired of the actor and the movies he made didn’t help the cause any, resulting in him becoming someone who used to be a star.
For most people that would mean direct-to-video movies and an eventual comeback somewhere down the road. The cheap movies were certainly no problem for Snipes, and a comeback may eventually happen, but unlike many other stars Snipes decided to take a detour to prison before that could happen.
Currently serving out his sentence in McKean Correctional Facility, Snipes hasn’t let the grey bar hotel get him down and instead has spent most of his time preparing new projects for his eventual release. While such constructive efforts should certainly be applauded, having gainful employment will likely be a part of his parole conditions and Snipes is working to make sure he has plenty of work ready, just so long as he doesn’t have to pay taxes on his income.
“Well I think that I'm holding up pretty well... mind is right, spirit is strong, hope is high I'll get out soon. Until then, I spend my time reading, studying, staying fit, leading warrior yoga classes, collecting incredible stories and nodding my head each time someone says to me ‘for real, Snipes, I can't believe they sent you here for misdemeanors! I've never seen that before, they really screwed you!’” Snipes told IGN

“Then, I'm like .yeah, tell me about it’. Paraphrasing Shakespeare: ‘All the world’s a stage and men are merely players’. I treat this like another role the good Lord wants me to play, in a movie I don't yet know the ending of. I'll perform my best and when they call "wrap", I'll return home to my family and friends to enjoy life.”
Snipes’ current role will last until at least June of 2013.
“It’s great that He has been able to keep himself occupied and that he will have work when he gets out. That is one major issue with most parole boards. People get out into the world and have nothing to do, no direction, and they fall into those old habits again and end up back in prison. Hopefully he will avoid that,” said Scrape TV Crime analyst Willard Weston. “It’s going to be a challenge to be sure. I mean he’s going to have to deal with money and taxes all the time and that has to be tough. His problem is always going to be right in his face but hopefully he will have learned his lesson.”
Snipes paid no taxes between 1999 and 2004, claiming he didn’t have to do so.
“I mean taxes are everywhere, not just income taxes but property taxes, sales tax. They are everywhere and that has been the source of his problems. That is going to make it very difficult to overcome but hopefully for him if he can keep busy he will be able to keep clean and stay out of trouble,” continued Weston. “Working hard will help, but he should probably stay away from managing the money himself. That just has trouble written all over it.”
Snipes has at least four projects lined up in an effort to meet his parole requirements.
