BRAD PITT TO GIVE ACTING CAREER THREE MORE YEARS BEFORE GIVING UP
November 15 2011
Los Angeles, CA – One would think that after dozens of blockbuster hits, two Academy Award nominations, a high profile celebrity relationship, and being one of the most famous people on the planet would be more than enough to declare an acting career a success.
Not so for Brad Pitt. Despite all that success and accolade, Pitt has really never reached the level of performers from the past, ones like Paul Newman and Robert Redford which he no doubt on which he modeled his career. Those actors gained popular acclaim and critical adoration with a kind of ease that has always evaded Pitt, something he has continued to pursue. Now though, that pursuit appears to be coming to an end.
Pitt has announced that when he hits fifty, three years from now, he will finally give up on his acting career and slide into the background, hoping, one assumes, to garner the type of success behind the screen that has so eluded him in front of it.
“Three years,” Pitt told a reporter for Australia’s ’60 Minutes’. He was then asked what he would do with his free time. “Hell if I know. Hell if I know. I am really enjoying the producing side and development of stories and putting those pieces together.”
While Pitt was mostly positive, reports of dissatisfaction with acting have been rampant throughout the actor’s career, having jumped out of a number of projects that were long into development.
Pitt was in Australia promoting ‘Moneyball’ which some have shortlisted for Oscar glory in the early days before it started to fizzle out. Pitt quit that project at least once in the development process.
“Brad really does feel like he has never really hit it right. Things have either gone one way or another but all things haven’t clicked at once and that has really bothered him. Yes, he has millions of dollars and a beautiful wife and big family and houses all over the world, but he just doesn’t feel like a success,” said an insider. “He has this ideal that he simply hasn’t achieved and he’s starting to feel, honestly, like he never will and that is what has prompted all this retirement talk. I would bet it will change, he likely won’t be able to let go of that desire for success.”
Pitt has worked as a producer on a number of recent films, none of which has really reached critical mass for the public or critical audiences.
“He’s very frustrated by the whole thing. He doesn’t understand how success seemed to come so easily to those other guys and that has gotten him frustrated. He goes through these phases, though, and I would bet that he will come out of it in short order,” continued the insider. “He’ll be sitting around in his pyjamas and catch ‘The Hustler’ or ‘Jeremiah Johnson’ on TV and it will spark him again to finally try and find that success that has so eluded him. I hope he does anyways, he deserves that.”
Pitt has acting projects scheduled through 2014, three years.
