DISNEY STILL FINDS EATING DISORDERS AND DEMI LOVATO A LITTLE FUNNY
December 25 2011
Los Angeles, CA – Usually serious disease is nothing to laugh at, unless of course it’s a really good joke. Sometimes people affected by those ailments, whatever they are, have a sense of humour about their situation and find it healthy to laugh at the ailment. Other times, however, people find their disease far less humorous and when that person is a kind of a celebrity, they can make a big stink.
That is certainly the case for Demi Lovato who railed against her former employer Disney after a small joke on a show she didn’t even watch. Specifically the joke revolved around eating disorders, kind of, something Lovato has suffered from and which caused her to lose her gig with Disney.
The former star then took to Twitter, railing against Disney proper for allowing the joke on one of their many programs, forcing the family-friendly company to issue an apology and pull the joke from future broadcasts of the show.
“I could just eat you up, well if I ate,” the joke went on ‘Shake it Up’.
To which Lovato responded through Twitter;
“I find it really funny how a company can lose one of their actress' from the pressures of an EATING DISORDER and yet still make joke about that very disease...#nice," Lovato went on. "And is it just me or are the actress' getting THINNER AND THINNER.... I miss the days of RAVEN, and LIZZIE MCGUIRE.”
The actress went on and on about, finally forcing the company to take action to ensure they protected their brand, and presumably to make sure that they never again employed the actress and put food on her table, not that she would eat it anyway.
Lovato later thanked the company for their actions, which had presumably made her as sick to her stomach as the sole glass of orange juice she drank that day.
“No one wants to make fun of the sick, but jokes are jokes and people sometimes need to stop taking themselves so seriously. Sometimes jokes are just jokes and they don’t need to go any further than that. I could maybe understand if this joke was targeted at Lovato, or was even good and on a show that people watched, but whatever,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “Disney is family friendly and they don’t want to offend people, generally, even if they aren’t and thatis why they apologized. I’m sure it made Lovato feel like a big woman being able to fight the giant, but of course she isn’t even remotely big anymore.”
Lovato had a well publicized meltdown which essentially ended her career on TV. She has been able to feed herself, kind of, through a singing career.
“No one wants to take the food out of her mouth, but she seems eager to do the same to other people. There are lots of people who work on that show and she got them all in trouble for a little joke that no one but her really cared about. Apparently she wants to inflict the same thing on them as what happened to her, and that’s just sad,” continued Temple. “Hopefully she learns to laugh at her own misfortune in the future rather than fighting with corporate giants. That is the best way to ensure she can keep food her table, getting cold and going bad to be sure, but at least it will be on the table.”
Lovato reportedly celebrated her victory with two peanuts which stayed down for hours.
