GEORGE LUCAS WILL ONLY MAKE BIG MOVIES FOR THE CRAFT SERVICES FROM NOW ON

January 18 2012

San Francisco, CA – There are few filmmakers, none in fact, who are both as loved and as despised as George Lucas. The source of fan boy wet dreams, Lucas has spent the last decade trampling on the memories he helped to create by continuing to make movies, perhaps not understanding that art, ultimately, belongs to the audience. Lucas, though, has stayed the course, remained with his vision just as he did in those early, visionary days that helped change film so dramatically, and now that may be coming to an end.george lucas young

Lucas, while doing a promotional tour for his newest film, his long held dream project ‘Red Tails’ not only insinuated that he may never make another blockbuster film again, but flat out stated so, preferring to reject the Hollywood machine that has chewed him up and spit him out over the last little while and possibly never making another movie.

Whether or not Lucas will eventually do such a thing is up for debate – he made the same threats after ‘Return of the Jedi’ was released – but given his advanced age and his apparent utter inability to see the world, it may well be that we have seen the end of good old Georgy boy, and with him having to comfort himself with his massive ranch and billions of dollars.

“Isn’t this their job? Isn’t their job at least to see movies? It’s not like some Sundance kid coming in there and saying, ‘I’ve got this little movie — would you see it?’ If Steven (Spielberg) or I or Jim Cameron or Bob Zemeckis comes in there, and they say, ‘We don’t even want to bother to see it. . . .’I’m retiring. I’m moving away from the business, from the company, from all this kind of stuff,” Lucas told the New York Times, responding to his own comments and questions.george lucas neck

Lucas was furious over an event which saw an unnamed studio executive not even show up to the screening of ‘Red Tails’. It’s not clear if the story is true or whether or not the executive didn’t show up because he just couldn’t care less about the film.

It’s believed that Lucas has not stopped vibrating since giving the interview, something commonplace for him today.

“There is little debate, there can’t be, that Lucas’ work behind the camera has been an immense contribution to film. He made the first real blockbuster, changed the economy of the medium, and the technical side of those films, particularly with ILM, was huge and again changed film. Art-wise though, not so much,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “I mean he did make movies and they had actors and everything but he really shouldn’t be comparing himself to his peers in terms of story-telling. He just isn’t them, though he doesn’t really understand that anymore I think.”george lucas red tails

Lucas does, however, understand craft services which continues to be his favourite part of big budget filmmaking.

“One day, probably one day soon, George Lucas will die and everyone will mourn him, decked out in that massive coffin carried by stormtroopers. I will be a sad day when his slave girl chokes him to death with that chain, but I think that will be his greatest artistic expression, having predicted his own demise,” continued Temple. “Other than that, I don’t know. I mean maybe he can spend his new free time building a death star because as much as he talks about it he isn’t going to make small movies. The craft services on those shows is usually awful anyway.”

Lucas has also vowed to not stop looking for a smuggler who dropped his cargo at the first sign of Imperial ships.
