KRISTY MCNICHOL DESPERATE TO TELL EVERYONE, ANYONE, WHO SHE REALLY IS

Los Angeles, CA – Celebrity is a fickle mistress. Sometimes it can deliver the world to a person, sometimes it can take everything they have, and sometimes it just goes on without that person. The next big thing occasionally turns out to be just that, but usually heat dissipates and the person who had it just vanishes as though they never existed.
That has happened many time before, think of people like Rachel Leigh Cook from the 1990’s surge, and witness people like Alex Pettyfer today. It will continue to happen as well, that’s just the way celebrity works, just ask anyone who has been part of that machine in the past.
Kristy McNichol was a part of that machine in the 1980’s. Now, most people don’t even know that name but in her prime, McNichol was a big deal, the next really big thing on the Hollywood scene that never really went anywhere. Like fellow fallen eighties wannabes such as C. Thomas Howell and Leif Garrett, McNichol never really got her big break, the thing that made her the celebrity ever assumed she was destined to become, and she faded away. Now, after years of being out of the spotlight, McNichol is back, stepping out the closet and hoping to help bullied gay and lesbian kids, assuming they would be willing to accept help from a complete and total stranger.
“She is very sad about kids being bullied. She hopes that coming out can help kids who need support. She would like to help others who feel different,” said publicist Jeff Ballard.
It’s not clear why McNichol still has a publicist or what she is doing with her life that would allow her to afford such an expenditure. Ballard did say that he does deal with a regular onslaught of junk mail sent to McNichol but was vague on his other responsibilities.
McNichol has not done film since 1998 but has not appeared in anything anyone would have seen since 1992 when she left the hit show ‘Empty Nest’ because she went crazy.
“Young people being bullied because of their sexual identity is a real concern, a real issue for a lot of people and it has caused real harm for a lot of people. It’s great that prominent stars like Neil Patrick Harris and Zachary Quinto are coming out and giving these young people a voice. McNichol, I mean bless her heart, but it really doesn’t do anything for anyone,” said Scrape TV Sexual Identity analyst Maria Kant. “I mean she has been out of acting longer than most of these young people have been alive and so her saying something, anything, really doesn’t help. It would be cynical to say she is doing this for attention, though, well that would be cynical.”
McNichol was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 1992 which prompted her to quit acting. Her departure had nothing to do with her failed career, nothing at all, not one bit.
“It’s great that she’s a lesbian. I mean lots of people are lesbians nowadays and many of them took real risks, career and otherwise, to come out publicly. It’s great that she has come out all these years later with absolutely nothing to risk and no one really paying attention, that shows how easy it has become,” continued Kant. “I mean better late than never I always say. Even late to the buffet is better than not eating at all. Good for her and I hope she finds someone she can help. Like anyone at all she can help, that would be nice.”
McNichol has reportedly been seen through the Los Angeles area grabbing people on the street and telling everyone she can that she is a lesbian. The police have had at least three conversation with her, but McNichol has stayed out and about.
