NEW YORK CITY SAVED FROM COURTNEY LOVE BY LEGAL DECISION, FOR NOW AT LEAST
January 20 2012
New York, NY – Twenty years ago the world was alight with a new musical sensation sweeping the nation. Youths were in rebellion, parents were confused and angry, and grunge was making a lot of people a lot of money, especially three guys in the leader of that revolution, Nirvana.
Nirvana’s success was unlike anything that existed in the music industry for years, decades even. There had certainly been popular artists before them, extremely popular, but no band since The Beatles had such a hold on people as Nirvana. Their success spanned the globe and caused a tidal shift not just in music but also in popular culture, making the band very influential and very, very wealthy.
Like The Beatles before them, Nirvana was doomed from the star. Too much success too fast meant an inevitable burn out, something that was already incoming well before Kurt Cobain killed himself. Much of that decline was, at least in part, due to a third party, again like The Beatles, the girlfriend of the lead songwriter. Like Yoko Ono before her, Courtney Love was tearing the band apart. Also like Ono, Love was nuts and became extremely wealthy when her husband died, something which has allowed her to remain prominent and off the streets all these years later, something which will likely continue after a judge allowed her to stay in her house.
Love was facing homelessness after the landlord of her Manhattan townhouse filed an eviction notice, citing lack of payment and fires that Love had set. Fortunately, for Love, a judge in the case sided with her, allowing her to remain off the streets for the time being, away from regular people which she could very well endanger.
“We are obviously not happy with the decision the judge made but we will have to abide by it. This was a terrible decision that we made, renting to Ms. Love, and not one we will ever make again,” said the landlord. “We are very hopeful that she will continue to pay rent and not set any more fires in the house. That is the very least we expect of any tenant, famous or not.”
The Judge reportedly prefers Pearl Jam to Nirvana which may explain his decision, in part.
The judge also hinted that he would prefer Love to continue paying the rent at the house or somewhere else, to keep her from the streets where she could possibly cause real harm. It’s believed unlikely that Love would return to dating men and ruining their lives if forced onto the streets.
“I don’t think that even the most rabid of Kurt Cobain fans would like to see Love out on the streets. I mean she’s got all of his money, it might as well go to a good cause like in the pockets of people who can be responsible with it. The landlord hasn’t ruined anyone’s life as far as we know and the less money Love has the better for all of us,” said Scrape TV Music analyst Dylan Chambers. “No one wants to see Courtney Love flush with cash and that is exactly what she would be if she were forced onto the streets. That catalogue makes so much money that she probably can’t spend what she brings in and so every expenditure is beneficial. At least she isn’t getting to keep it, a small consolation for Nirvana fans, and for men all across New York City too.”
Love celebrated the legal victory slumped beside a garbage can outside the courthouse.
