ROBERT PATTINSON TO GO BY ‘BOB’ FOLLOWING RELEASE OF FINAL ‘TWILIGHT’ MOVIE
October 28 2011
Hollywood, CA – It’s all in a name. That old adage has proven true over and over again, though mostly be association. After all, if it was all in a name it’s very unlikely that Barack Hussein Obama would have been elected President or that the Nintendo Wii would have become a massive hit. Names are often defined by their actions, though occasionally names do carry a lot of weight and can become exactly the embodiment of that adage.
There is nowhere that is more true than in Hollywood. Plain Jane normal names tend to not look as good on the Marquee as extravagant titles, a fact which prompts many would-be stars to affect changes before making it big. Sometimes actors will even change their name mid-stream, particularly younger actors who want to seem more mature, because in Hollywood a name really does matter. For big star Robert Pattinson it wouldn’t appear that his name was much of an issue one way or the other.
After all, he has appeared in the Harry Potter movies and become a star as a result of the ‘Twilight’ films, but even he is apparently concerned about his name, so much so that he is apparently considering switching to the more folksy and familiar version ‘Bob’ following the release of the final vampire flick next year.
“There’s still plenty of time to change his mind, but he and his people feel that the whole Robert things is a little too sophisticated for the general public, particularly in the United States. They really do feel that the lack of success he has had outside the Twilight movies has been because people see his name as a little too English,” said a Hollywood insider. “Bob is far more accessible to mainstream America and they feel that by switching they could access that audience a little better and possibly start to develope a career outside him being a vampire.”
The final instalment of the series is due to be released in November of 2012.
“They really want a long term career here, they don’t just want these movies and then nothing. They want to make an investment in the future and they feel that by changing the name they would open him up to more people in the United States, and as we all know when that happens, the rest of the world opens up,” continued the insider. “I mean he’s not going to change his name legally or anything, just on the movie posters and such. They were considering some other names like Chuck or Phil, which are obviously a little more American, but they felt this was the best way to appeal to both his old audience and a potential new group of fans. There are considering localizing his name in different territories, though that may just be a little confusing.”
Ticket sales for the last film in the series, Eclipse, dropped throughout the world when compared to the previous title.
“It’s a risky move to change things midway through a career but it can be successful. Laurence Fishburne spent a good deal of his career as Larry, for example, and since the change things have only gotten better. People assess you based on your name, like it or not, and that is especially true in Hollywood,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “Frankly, I think the odds are still against him, probably against all the actors in those movies. None of them have really broken out yet and none seem to have the real cache that young stars tend to have. I’m sure they’ll be around for awhile to come, but I really don’t see a big star among them, unless they change their names of course.”
Kristen Stewart is apparently considering a change to ‘Krissy’ while Taylor Lautner likes pears.
