WAGNER, WALKEN, BOAT CAPTAIN, BOAT NOT SUSPECTS IN NATALIE WOOD DEATH
November 19 2011
Los Angeles, CA – It was a case, a mystery, that most observers assumed would just go unsolved. The tragic death of Natalie Wood thirty years gripped the public attention in its time and, though time has passed and made the story little more than a relic, the decision to reopen the investigation has once again made the tragedy front page news.
The story goes that four people were out partying on a boat. Wood, her husband Robert Wagner, co-star Christopher Walken, and the captain partied and drank to the wee hours. Wood vanished sometime during the night and her body was later recovered from the water. For years Wagner was vaguely suspected but never charged and the case was closed, chalked up as a tragic accident.
However, new evidence has surfaced that prompted police to reopen the case and investigate it as a homicide, though none of the people on the boat, nor the boat itself, are considered suspects making it likely that Wood murdered herself or was dragged to the ocean floor by some mysterious creature.
“Robert Wagner is not a suspect. Christopher Walken is not a suspect. The captain of the yacht is not a suspect. We have no suspects at this time but the case has been reopened as a homicide,” said a spokesperson for the LA County Sheriff’s office. “This is an open investigation and all avenues will be explored. At this stage we have no suspects whatsoever.”
All the people onboard are considered person of interest. There is no evidence that someone else boarded the vessel sometime after Wagner and Wood fought and threw her in the water.
Police in 1981 also ruled out the possibility of some type of creature from the deeps bent on making Wood its bride being responsible, though the new investigation will likely explore that possibility.
Walken, who by all accounts was sleeping when Wood went overboard, hired a lawyer shortly after hearing of the news upon waking from a nap.
“This is certainly a strange case, one that I had assumed was long dead. While it was pretty clear that Wagner at least didn’t act as he should have, he just wasn’t proactive in trying to find his wife, there was no evidence that he actually threw her overboard, though that would be pretty tough to ascertain,” said Scrape TV Crime analyst Willard Weston. “Frankly, I thought the case was a dead as Wood herself but I guess not. Unfortunately there are no suspects, not even the only people who could possibly have been responsible, so this will be hard case to crack.”
The captain of the yacht has already spoken to investigators. The boat itself has already been cleared in the investigation.
“I mean if she was murdered someone would have had to murder her, that’s the way these things tend to go. If there is no murderer then there was no murder, simple, case closed,” continued Weston. “And if nobody onboard the boat was involved then it had to be someone else, possibly a creature from the deep or someone who maybe parachuted in and then swam away. I mean I suppose it is possible that her husband, who she had just had a knock down drag out fight with, could have been involved but that isn’t what police are saying so the case is still very much a mystery and that may never change.”
It’s believed likely that if a creature from the ocean floor was indeed responsible that it will never be charged.
