ZACHARY QUINTO SAYS NEXT STAR TREK MOVIE WILL BE FABULOUS
October 19 2011
Los Angeles, CA – Being gay in Hollywood is nothing new, being gay and out is now almost meaningless, but being out and gay and playing an action hero in Hollywood is something else entirely. While the character Spock is certainly not Rambo, oozing machismo and raw masculinity, he has nonetheless saved the universe on dozens of occasions and never faltered when fisticuffs were required, making him very much an action hero, now being portrayed by a gay man.
It was only a few days ago that the actor responsible for the most recent version of Spock, Zachary Quinto, acknowledged a long -standing rumour that he was gay. Such revelations are hardly even news anymore, but because Quinto has become famous for playing a legendary action man some were concerned that his revelation might endanger his future in the role.
Not so, at least according to Quinto himself who confirmed that not only will he be in the new ‘Star Trek’ movie as Spock, but that the early stages of production actually begin this week and, from what he’s seen, the movie will be absolutely fabulous.
“Star Trek 2 is on the imminent horizon. I’m headed back to L.A. to start prep for it,” Quinto told giantfreakinrobot.com but disappointed the reporter with news that he couldn’t reveal any secrets, simply because he had not read the script, but was confident that it would be sparkling.
The new movie is due to start filming early next year, likely with lots of flare and pizzazz like the last one.
“I’m sure that the new movie will be totally unaffected by Quinto’s revelation. We are in a day and age when being gay in Hollywood really doesn’t matter, where people like Neil Patrick Harris can actually make a career off being alpha male despite being gay. Things have changed a great deal in recent years for the better,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “I don’t think that being gay will impact the movie, either the final result or the production, in any way. From what I have seen a read of Quinto he seems to be a good person and a professional when it comes to acting. I doubt that there will be any type of gay problems on the set, whatever that would be.”
It’s believed that the rest of the principal cast, which includes Chris Pine, Simon Pegg, and Zoe Saldana, are all heterosexual.
“I mean it really isn’t an issue anymore and anyone who is preoccupied with an actor
being gay, well they are just thinking in an outdated mode. Being gay really doesn’t matter in Hollywood anymore, or really in most areas of regular life. It’s just the way things are now,” continued Temple. “I doubt that many people will go into the new movie thinking about Spock being gay, or looking for little subtle signs. Some people may, but they will be in the minority. Most people just don’t care if actors are straight or gay anymore, it really isn’t an issue for fans, so people really shouldn’t be making a big deal out of it. Being gay just doesn’t matter and it really shouldn’t be a topic for discussion no matter who they are playing.”
No one seems really worried about Quinto’s performance.
