CHRIS BROWN BEATS HIS LOVE INTO RIHANNA
March 12 2009
Hollywood, CA – Reports that Chris Brown and Rihanna have married just weeks after he brutally beat and bit her on a Los Angeles street have caused law enforcement officials and psychologists to re-examine the domestic violence cases and the nature of love itself. The 9/11 call that shocked the entertainment world has turned into a surprising declaration of young love that is sure to resonate through the history of great celebrity romances.
According to police reports the incident on February 8 was a result of a suggestive text message to Brown from his manager and former lover. Brown then punched Rihanna repeatedly, smashed her head against the car window, put her in a choke hold, and bit her fingers while all the time threatening to kill her. Since that incident the two have reunited, made plans to sing a love duet, and reportedly have married and seems to prove that domestic abuse truly does come from a place of love.
“We had long been operating under the presumption that abusers were either people unable to control their temper or that they were people who got into relationships in order to have someone to abuse. It’s quite common for abusers to beg for forgiveness and make declarations of love but until now no one has ever seen that as anything but manipulative emotional abuse. This case seems to indicate that we have been wrong all along,” said Scrape TV
Psychology analyst Dr. Sarah Welp. “Very obviously Rihanna has a great deal of love for Brown, and judging by his apology he seems to feel the same way about her. Many have criticized him for waiting three weeks before saying he was sorry but that may just indicate that he was thinking really hard about it, not that he felt forced to say something. This case may force us to change our perspective on domestic violence and violence altogether.”
It is estimate that 1 in 4 American women will encounter some kind of physical violence with an intimate at some point in their lives. Global statistics vary from country to country but hover in the 25% range for most of the western world.
“The core problem may be with our diagnostic procedures. We are seeing a massive rise in domestic beatings throughout the Middle East and Asia and it has now entered into the public
arena. It could be that we are altering our attitudes and tolerances or that this was always here and we were just not seeing it correctly. Remember there was a time when we thought the sun revolved around the Earth and we didn’t believe in things like germs,” continued Webber. “Obviously we have come to accept spousal abuse as a positive declaration of love and it may be time that we re-assess other conditions that we have ascribed to mental and emotional disorders such as child abuse and suicide. It may very well be that we have been over thinking this the whole time. Remember cave men beat their wives, so there’s a long tradition.”
Because of the nature of celebrity and the unbridled affection people have for those in the public eye the alteration of psychological disorders is common. From celebrity drug abuse to self-mutilation, things that would be considered seemly or disordered in an average person commonly becomes acceptable when done by a celebrity, even spawning television shows and Academy Award nominations such as was the case with Mickey Rourke.
“For years and years we have been scoffing at the declarations of love from abusers, as well as being confused as to why women stay with these men but it appears that we have just been mistaken about the nature of love,” said Scrape TV Literary analyst Samuel Lee.
“Scientists, psychologists, philosophers, artists, they’ve all been trying to navigate the
labyrinth of love but now it appears as though we were walking through the wrong
maze this whole time. This incident is going to have a major effect on the study of love and affection going forward.”
It is not expected that historians will go back and change traditional studies of love and mating, especially in the arts, but that changes in thinking will alter future studies.
“We won’t be going back and rewriting Shakespeare or Emily Dickinson but this could give rise to a whole new form of creative expression. Rihanna and Brown’s duet will be the first expression of that,” continued Lee. “Of course this could all be incorrect and Brown may have just knocked some of her brains out when he smashed her head against the window over and over again which of course could result in this behaviour. Whatever, I’ve never been able to figure chicks out.”
