WHITNEY HOUSTON READY FOR YET ANOTHER CAREER COMEBACK
August 31 2009
Los Angeles, CA – For many the dream of having their names in lights is simply that, a dream. The fantasy of being a movie God or a rock star is something that has overtaken virtually everyone at some time in their lives with the hopes of unlimited
wealth and fame and all the benefits that come with that status. Celebrity culture though is not unique to that. The rise to power of famous politicians, warlords, and artists throughout history show that the desire for glory is something innate in the human condition. Of course very few ever pass the dreaming stage and even fewer are ever able to achieve what so many have fantasized about.
For some though success one time just isn’t enough. Many artists try their hands in other fields in an effort to expand their personal creative vision as well push their status even further. Other too blow their
opportunities and spend the rest of their lives trying to get it back. Some though waste that success over and over again,
losing their shot at greatness only to take another shot somewhere down the road. There have been few that have had more opportunities than Whitney Houston who is once again taking a shot at the big time.
“I’m very, very excited about this new album. It’s been a long time since I’ve made an album and I know the fans have been waiting. Hopefully this record gives them what they have been waiting for, I know it has given me that. This has been a long time coming but I’m very happy the time is now,” said Houston. “I do realize the mistakes I have made in the past and I do realize that I am very lucky to be in this position and I want to
make the most of it, at least for a little while. Look, let’s be honest about this. I’m going to screw this up again but at least now I know how to make it back to the top. There’s nothing that can match experience and the next time I’ll come back stronger than ever.”
Houston has not released any new music since 2003’s ‘One Wish’, a collection of Christmas songs. Her last original release was 2002’s ‘Just Whitney’ which was released just one year after signing one of the largest contracts in music history.
“Houston really has had a career like few others in history. She has gone from huge highs to about as low as one can go but somehow she keeps rebounding. Like many stars who fall from grace her up and down career has been affected by her personal life which has taken precedence over her professional one. Much like Michael Jackson who was very much a peer addictions and
poor decisions have damaged an otherwise stellar career,” said Scrape TV Music analyst Dylan Chambers. “It’s interesting to watch her make these comebacks over and over again but one has to wonder how much people will be willing to take. Obviously she is going to be hamstrung by the fact that music has moved on in the years since she was relevant but you also have to question how much patience even her most dedicated of fans will have, especially if they suspect that they will have to go through this again.”
In recent years Houston’s career has largely been defined by her marriage to Bobby Brown and the drug and alcohol addiction that accompanied that relationship. That turmoil has led to up and down production but her recent divorce has given he a fresh shot at the big time.
“There are limits to pop music and what people will accept. My guess is that this album will do mediocre business which will then result in a breaking of her existing contract and then some kind of spiral into silly behaviour. In about five to seven years she will re-emerge again,” continued Chambers. “She’s decidedly in it for the long haul. Just when everyone has written her off and forgotten she comes right back and that will likely happen again. She’ll never have the kind of success she had earlier in her career but sometimes coming back is success enough.”
Fellow comeback kid John Travolta is expected to resurface with this fall’s ‘Old Dogs’ and will then collapse again in 2011 with a sequel to ‘Wild Hogs’. Houston is reportedly already in the planning stages for her next comeback.
