CONAN O’BRIEN CONSIDERS OFFER FROM HAITIAN TELEVISION STATIONS

January 21 2010

Hollywood, CA – Television, movies, music are all industries that promise the highest of highs but more often than not end up delivering the opposite. Travel any street in Hollywood and you will see rows and rows of people who speak volumes to the trail of conan obrien
broken dreams that the town can leave. Even those who achieve massive success often fall, reduced to the level of mere mortal as quickly as they had ascended to the heavens. Such is the case for Conan O’Brien and his rollercoaster gig as host of ‘The Tonight Show’.

With his tenure as host of the ultimate late night talker coming to a close the future for O’Brien and his people is murky at best. While it’s long been assumed that the host will land on his feet eventually, no matter where he goes he will crowd the already tight late night game. With heavy hitters such as the returning Jay Leno, David Letterman, and Nightline already consuming the bulk of the viewers, and Jimmy Kimmel taking the few stragglers, it doesn’t seem as though there will be much room for O’Brien when and if he does get another show. That is of course assuming he takes the traditional. Already talk of O’Brien moving his crew further south has been making the rounds with the possibility of quake-strewn Haiti being at the top of the list.conan obrien

“It’s real idea that they are considering. Amidst all this turmoil that has been going on over the last few weeks, Conan has been glued to the TV watching all the happenings in Haiti. He’s donated quite a bit of money, though quietly, and he is really feeling what’s going on there and wants to do what he can to help,” said an insider who preferred to remain anonymous. “He’s also very shrewd, believe it or not, and watching the coverage has made him realize the possibilities inherent at hosting a talk show from such a ravaged location. It’s CNN in particular that has impressed him with people like Anderson Cooper and Sanjay Gupta really shining as stars. He thinks it could work down there.”

It’s not clear what might happen to the show should the damage eventually be cleaned up in the country.conan obrien

“The truth is, at least as he sees it, Haiti will likely always been in ruins. There will inevitably be another disaster in the next few years that will once again send the country into chaos and so he thinks it’s a good long term investment. It’s also a great way to get ratings at a level that Leno can only dream of,” continued the insider. “The real advantage here is syndication. By not going to another network he will be able to keep the entire payout from NBC and probably make millions without any kind of penalty. It’s a win all around. Even the Haitians will benefit, probably. If they can prevent Leno from coming everything will be good.”

Some technical obstacles, such as the lack of studios, cameras, lights, and consistent electricity will face the crew upon arrival in Haiti should they decide to take the offer anytime in the next century.haiti earthquake victim

“Haiti will rebuild and will likely come out much stronger than they were before. That of course isn’t really all that difficult considering the state the country was in before, I mean a few more indoor toilets and they will be set, but whether or not they can support a major late night talk show is a different situation,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “There’s also the very real possibility that some of these embedded reporters will want a piece of the action. They already have the eyeballs and the affection of the population so they will be tough to move. Hopefully for Coco and his people it will work out.”

NBC has reportedly stepped up their reporting from Haiti though it isn’t clear if the two are related.
