DIABLO CODY CONSIDERING RETURN TO ‘THE OLD LIFE’

Hollywood, CA – Hollywood is a fickle town to be sure. The biggest star of the moment can, in an instant, be yesterday’s news. The history of the film industry is littered with almost-weres and used-to-bes as the juggernaut moves ever forward. 
Such casting aside can happen to just about everyone no matter their level of success or what they have done in the past. It is, in fact, only the rare person who is able to sustain relevance in the town that has been the source of so many dreams and so much heartache.
For a brief moment Hollywood belonged to Diablo Cody. The massive and unexpected box office success of ‘Juno’ put the screenwriter on the lips of virtually everyone in the town. Her Oscar win for the same screenplay ensured that her next project would be a hotly sought after property. Unfortunately that screenplay was ‘Jennifer’s Body’, a box office bomb that helped to secure Megan Fox’s status as exactly what everyone expected. A moderately successfully television show aside, Cody’s golden sheen has more or less turned to chrome and that has the screenwriter reportedly looking to return to the field that helped make her successful in the first place.
“Cody is a very smart girl and she realizes the fickle nature of Hollywood. She’s very aware of how the town can just throw a person away and she’s not interested in being a part of that. The name she keeps bringing up is Tom Cruise. He was the biggest star in the world and that has more or less disappeared but he still keeps trying and it just looks embarrassing,” said an anonymous Hollywood insider. “She just doesn’t want to play that game and make herself look silly and so she’s really seriously thinking about going back to the life. She has a great deal of affection for those days and stripping in general and she feels that even at her age she can still pull it off and be at the top of the heap there at least.”
Much has been made of Cody’s life as stripper, mostly by the writer herself, which has only added to her mystique that has mostly worn off.
“She’s got a couple project on the go and she wants to see them through but they really are passion projects for her. Aside from ‘Sweet Valley High’ there’s nothing that has any real expectations but she wants to explore them creatively. After that it’s likely that she’ll just go back to the clubs permanently,” continued the insider. “At this point it’s really not an issue of success or failure. She likes the life and she wants to return to it, apparently. Of course the reality is after the failure of ‘Body’ there aren’t nearly as many people beating down her door and the charm of that silver tongued kind of dialogue has very limited appeal. I think she sees the writing on the wall and is clever enough to follow its advice.”
It’s not clear what her boundaries will be upon returning to stripping but in order to come close to Hollywood style money it’s believed she will have to perform ‘extras’.
“It takes an exceptional talent and an extraordinary level of luck to be able to sustain a career for the long term in Hollywood. That’s especially true for someone like Cody whose appeal was kind of quirky and just a little gimmicky. People weren’t going to tolerate that forever,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “It’s good that she has a career to fall back on. So many of the people who end up crashing out simply don’t have anything else and are forced to do ridiculous things for money. Look at people like Robin Williams and John Travolta as an example. It’s clear she doesn’t want and ‘Old Dogs’ on her resume and so returning to stripping just makes sense. I’m sure she’ll do quite well as her assets appear to have held up quite well.”
Megan Fox, the star of ‘Jennifer’s Body’, has apparently been talking with Cody about a possible double team but nothing has yet been confirmed.
