GEORGE LOPEZ AMUSES HIMSELF WITH NEW ROUTINE

Los Angeles, CA – George Lopez’s life and career have defied many odds, odds that would have perverted the determination of many men. Never knowing his father and abandoned by his mother at Ten years old, Lopez’s early life was an unfortunately all
too common one for young Chicano men in Los Angeles. Lopez though was determined to overcome those obstacles and for nearly two decades toiled in the underbelly of the stand-up comedy scene before finally making it big, quite a feat for a person who had so many obstacles in his way.
Now a bona fide star with a hit sitcom, best-selling DVD’s, hit movies, and a late night talk show, Lopez has certainly dragged himself up by his bootstraps, making a success of his life not only for himself but also for a generation of young Chicano men and women who now realize that anything truly is achievable. Of course being a role model is a role that Lopez has sidled into and it is comedy that is Lopez’s truly defining characteristic. Taking on controversial topics such as race, Lopez has followed in the tradition of some of the greatest comedians to ever take to the stage, names such as Richard Pryor and Bill Cosby. Despite that incredible television success, Lopez has stayed true to his stand-up roots and now, according to the man himself, has written a new routine that is just cracking him up.
“The idea came to me almost all at once. It was just, like, there in my head all at the same time. I wrote it down immediately and then worked it a little bit and I can tell you that it is one of the best things I have ever written. I just can’t stop giggling even sitting here talking about it,” said Lopez in an exclusive interview. “I mean normally my stuff just cracks me up but this time, well this is killer. I’m thinking about it while I’m lying in bed, it’s that good. It makes me think that I can really do great stuff even atmy age. I can’t wait for people to hear the routine. He-he. So funny.”
Lopez did not make it clear where and when he will first be performing the routine but assured us that it will happen as soon as he can deliver the lines without cracking himself up.
“George Lopez has really done an incredible job. Following in the footsteps of people like Cheech Marin and Paul Rodriguez he has really put Chicano and Latino comedy on the map in ways that no one else could have done. He made it mainstream and that is something no one else has ever come close to doing,” said Scrape TV Humour analyst Doug Cutter. “How that happened is still a little baffling to be sure, but it happened. I’m sure that many of his routines have amused him but this news that he really can’t control his laughter is something else entirely. That must mean that it’s really, really funny.”
It’s assumed that the routine will somehow deal with race relations in the United States, particularly as it relates to Mexican immigrants. Such humour has been Lopez’s bread and butter.
“It’s really quite exciting for a lot of reasons. Ultimately though you know that if George Lopez is laughing than it must be really funny. George Lopez doesn’t just laugh at anything and he doesn’t even laugh at all his jokes so that says something about this mystery routine,” continued Cutter. “I mean is this on the level of Abbot and Costello’s ‘Who’s on First?’ or George Carlin’s ‘7 words’? We can only guess at this point but by judging from Lopez’s reaction to the material I think it might in fact be at that level.”
Carlos Mencia is reportedly already working on ways to adapt the joke despite not having heard it yet.
