HOLLYWOOD OFFICIALS AT A LOSS AS CELEBRITIES JUST STOP DYING

Hollywood, CA – There’s little doubt that celebrities, particularly movie and television stars, are the royalty of the modern world. Revered the world over, there every move a point of almost obsessive interest, the cult of celebrity has for many people become
even more important than their own families. In recent years, with the growth of the web helping to disseminate gossip instantly, celebrities have seemingly become bigger than ever with people becoming famous for apparently no reason at all.
Because of that, 2009 was a very tough year for many celebrity watchers. The deaths of such high profile and diverse entertainers such as Michael Jackson, David Carradine, Billy Mays, and Farrah Fawcett, many within weeks of one another, made the year a particularly troubling one for the elite of modern society. That short period had many concerned about the well being of their favourite performers, concerns that have not yet materialized with very few celebrity deaths over the last few months. That development has many in the Hollywood community concerned that death might once again be saving its energy for a big push, or that having delivered a massive blow to the community, will doom the Hollywood elite to perennial life.
“We’re really concerned as to where things are going. Obviously, everyone was really worried over the summer because no one was sure who would be next but now we are just as concerned. True, a small number of people have died but they could hardly be considered famous and the majority of them were quite elderly. It’s a very odd thing now, a kind of eerie calm over the city,” said one Hollywood official. “Everyone is on edge as we wait for the next shoe to drop. Many are afraid that there’s going to be a major tragedy like a plane crash. I can tell you that there are a lot of people who are already backing out the Academy Awards for fear that something dramatic will happen there. I think its best that they just don’t congregate together, just in case.”
The alternate scenario, immortality, is just as frightening to many who will have to deal with faces that age interminably and little to no chance of new movie roles.
“It’s hard enough to get work when you are over a certain age, especially for women, and the prospect of being a 300 year old actors trying out for a part has to cause a lot of cringing. Some people will be able to have some success, particularly character actors, but the rest are going to have a hard time with immortality if that is indeed what is happening,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “Hollywood people have always dreamt of the fountain of youth but I think that if they ever found it they would find that it’s a little less than what they dreamed about. Immortality likely just isn’t what people fantasize about.”
It’s not clear if celebrities would be forced to age forever, or would simply stop at a certain age, similar to vampires.
“That is another possibility that no one has considered yet. Vampires are the ‘it’ thing right now and one thing that holds true in Hollywood is that trends tend to hit there first. It’s a distinct possibility that somehow all of Hollywood has been transformed into vampires and they need never worry about death or aging, just irrelevancy,” continued Temple. “If that is indeed the case I’d hazard a guess that Madonna is the lead vampire. Aside from the fact that she has always been a trendsetter she really has started to look a little undead in recent years. She also has a lot of contacts and could very easily have spread it around the community, resulting in a kind of permanent Hollywood.”
It’s not clear what the criteria is for transformation into a Hollywood vampire but it’s likely that not everyone will have a shot at immortality.
