LACK OF SCRIPT LIKELY WON’T AFFECT SPIDERMAN SEQUEL

January 7 2010

Hollywood, CA – Spiderman is without a doubt one of the most popular and enduring of all fictional characters ever created. On par with Mickey Mouse and Santa Claus, Stan Lee and Steve Ditko’s little creation has had an incredible impact on spiderman comic
popular culture. That popularity hit a fever pitch in 2002 when the first feature film featuring the web-slinger hit multiplexes around the world, catapulting the character to heights that few ever could have imagined possible, making millions for his creators and enduring love from his legion of fans.

Now almost ten years since the release of the original film the character remains as popular as ever. Despite the last film in the series, the nine-hundred million dollar grossing part three, being released almost three years ago the anticipation for another entry in the series is palpable. News that the next film in the series was now in active production with almost all of the original players still involved had gotten fans worked into a lather, a lather that was watered down a bit earlier this week upon news that the scheduled release date might be in jeopardy. According to sources the primary reason for the delay may well be the script for the next film, a problem that plagued the last film to record box office. Sony though, the company behind the film, has assured fans that the film will be made whether they have a script or not.spiderman movie

“I’m sure a lot of fans will be disappointed if the film is delayed but frankly I think that’s a little unlikely. Yes they are having script problems and the talent and studio are fighting like school kids but this is Hollywood, that’s the way things go and anything else would be looked upon a little oddly,” said an inside source close to the situation. “Look, they all realize that they had no script the last time around and the movie still made close to a billion dollars. Look at what Avatar is doing with its retread plot and cheesy dialogue. The whole idea is to look like you have a script even if you don’t. They’ll get there and the movie will be out next year. This whole talk of a having to have a script ready is really just bluster.”

Part of the argument is believed to revolve around which villain or villains will be used in the film, an issue that was solved on the first day of shooting for the last film.spiderman

“When you’ve been around Hollywood long you realize that the last thing, the very last thing any major blockbuster needs is a script. In many cases it’s actually a detriment to the final product because actors have to go into scene all stressed out from being prepared which hurts the film,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “From what I’ve heard Megan Fox was given a few sides for the last Transformers movie the day before she was scheduled to shoot and almost had a nervous breakdown on set. Scripts really cause nothing but trouble on these kinds of movies.”

Many major films start out with a ten page outline and have writers on set throughout production to provide lines for actors to recite.spiderman cartoon

“A lot of this is likely just the studio baiting the fans, trying to get them to believe that they’ve turned over a new leaf and will go about making the film the way most people would expect it should be made. That’s what the fans want but in this case it’s really just Hollywood smokescreen. The movie will be out, script or no script,” continued Temple. “Guarantee that within a couple of weeks, after all this attention has died down, they will announce that production has commenced, with a whole lot of new fan interest.”

Reportedly the script for upcoming ‘Iron-Man 2’ still hasn’t been written despite a May release date.
