NO ONE NOTICES AS ORLANDO BLOOM JUMPS SHIP FOR NEXT PIRATES FILM
February 1 2010
Hollywood, CA – Every now and then Hollywood comes up with a really wacky idea that somehow, despite itself, works to perfection. The recent success of ‘Avatar’ speaks to that. With hundreds of millions of dollars thrown at a movie with untested
technology and no pre-existing franchise, the film should have been a massive flop. Instead it has become the most financially successful film ever produced and fully integrated itself into pop culture and may, come March, make its way into the elite of motion pictures. It was a crazy idea, and it worked.
A few years ago Disney had a similarly crazy idea to base an entire movie based on a fifty-year old theme park ride. That movie was of course ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl ‘ which, along with its sequels, has grossed almost three billion dollars and made the stars household names, a crazy idea that worked beyond anyone’s imagination. Now as the studio gets ready to embark on the fourth voyage of the franchise the hopes are high that they will once again find gold. It appears though that they will have to do it without to members of the cast who helped make the original movies so successful, something very few people seem to care about one way or the other.
"No, definitely not. I think Will is sort of swimming around with the fish at the bottom of the ocean. I had a great time making those movies. I just really wanted to do different things, but I think it's going to be great,” said Orlando Bloom to someone who apparently feigned interest. “I think he's (director Rob Marshall) an amazing director. I think it will be a very interesting fit, because Johnny is musical anyway and I'm sure that something really beautiful will come out of it.”
Bloom, who has also appeared in the Lord of the Rings movies as well as dozens of others that no one has seen, is not an accredited film critic or scholar, though did make news recently after he was robbed.
“It was very clear when watching the first movie who the real star of the film was and
it was definitely not Orlando Bloom. Johnny Depp has been a star for decades now and his performance in those three films may be his best work. He’s compelling, hilarious, and even a bit frightening, truly a star and a legendary performance,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “I mean Orlando Bloom was, well he was in the movies, the same with Keira Knightley. They both appeared on screen and delivered their lines but from the get go it was very clear that these were Depp’s movies. The exclusion of them from the new movie really won’t have an effect on anything I would imagine, at least negative. It could free them up and will likely save a lot on the budget, especially from the eye liner budget.”
Geoffrey Rush, who played the magnetic villain Barbossa, will reportedly return for the fourth film.
“In any movie there are people who are essential to the production and those who can be replaced very easily. Key grips for example can be easily swapped out without any noticeable effect on the end product. They just don’t add anything indispensible to the production or the finished product. Obviously Depp is not like a key grip,” continued Temple. “I mean Bloom is probably a very nice guy and he’s very good looking and all, but, well that’s about it. You have to wonder what he’s holding out for though, perhaps a sequel to ‘Elizabethtown’ or some other movie of his, whatever they might be.”
Bloom’s filmography is available at the IMDB.
