WARNER BROTHERS PONDERING REALITY SHOW TO FIGURE OUT NEW SUPERMAN MOVIE

Hollywood, CA – There is no other superhero as iconic as Superman. While fans of heroes such as Batman and The X-Men would likely dispute such a statement, the reality is Superman is the archetype for all modern comic heroes. He was also the first
big celebrity in the medium, paving the way for every hero that has come after him superman-christopher-reevewith his blazing heat vision. Unfortunately, though Supes hasn’t fared very well in the modern era, his undeniable good becoming almost anachronistic in the more complicated modern world, leading to an erosion in the love directed his way.
Much of the attention about the lack of attention paid to Superman has been in the movie realm. With the first series of films almost forgotten and the Bryan Singer directed sequel considered at best underwhelming, Warner Brothers and DC have been struggling to find a new vision for the Man of Steel. That effort has been hampered by legal by the families of creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster as well as differences of opinion as to how to compete in the new order of superhero movies that has been blazing up the box office. The studio believes they have the answer, in the form of a reality show that could change forever the way Hollywood makes movies.
“That’s the big idea right now. The guys at the studio aren’t complete idiots and they fully realize that they are more or less totally out of ideas and they want something that will help spark a new way of thinking about the project and maybe help to cure the drought that so many studios have been dealing with recently,” said an insider who preferred to remain anonymous. “As I understand it, they are going to get a bunch of different people together from all different walks of life and have them act out all the different kinds of scenes they would like to see in a Superman movie. People would then be vited in or out based on those scenes. One person I talked described as Survivor meets American Idol and they are all really excited about what it could do not only for Superman but all of their properties.”
Traditionally movie studios hire writers and directors to develop concepts and then work through a script. Often movies will go through many of these processes, called pitches, before they settle on a final scenario.
“Studios have really be struggling of late, and things like sequels, reboots, and adaptations have really been taking up a lot of the sir. Superman is all three of those things so it would seem to be a no-brainer but the reality is it’s difficult to make a movie about a man who is essentially indestructible. It takes away from a lot of the kinds of things that make movies work,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “Comics work on exposition and character, but movies, by definition, have to move so the story options can be limited. Even more so when there is only one thing in the universe that can possibly hurt the hero.”
Kryptonite, a piece of rock from Superman’s home world, eliminates his powers and renders him susceptible to any attack. Throughout the movie series’ five films that material has been very easy to come by.
“It’s an interesting idea to go with a reality show. It will put superman into the homes of millions of people and will likely give them a storyline to go with. That could mean big box office especially as so many people are already invested in the process, they will want to see the outcome,” continued Temple. “Of course if it works everyone will want to have their own reality show which will result in TV being inundated with movie pitches, something that could ultimately ruin the entire thing and send the studios back to more traditional methods to making movies. It will be an interesting experience and it will be fun to see people trying to fly.”
The studio reportedly first came up with the idea for the big screen version of Green Lantern before realizing that no one would be interested enough to watch the show.
