CHRISTIAN BALE SEEKING HIV INFECTION FOR NEWEST ROLE
June 1 2010
Hollywood, CA – It is only the last century that acting has been considered a noble profession. Though we have a great deal of reverence for famous playwrights such as Shakespeare today, in his time his plays and the people who played in them were
considered of the lower class. Though kings and queens did enjoy plays, the bulk of the elite dismissed the people who engaged in such lesser arts. With the advent of film however, a truly cross spectrum medium that helped to create many of today’s elite, actors finally came into their own and now amongst the most respected players in modern society.
Because of that, as well as the significant salaries that go alongside being a name actor, the profession is one of the most sought after and rarely achieved in modern society with very few ever able to do it professionally, never mind reach the top of the creative realm. Luckily for movie fans there are a handful of actors who are able to not only be popular but also push the craft forward. Some actors have become renowned for that very thing and have pushed the limits of what is possible in acting. Marlon Brando, Robert DeNiro, and Al Pacino are just a few of those actors who have made conscious decisions to further the art of acting. In the modern day such actors exist as well and one, Christian Bale, has had both popular and critical success. Now word comes that he may push the craft even further as he seeks to find a doctor who will inject him with HIV for a new role.
“Christian really feels this role and has been getting into even more than usual. Everyone knows the story about how he lost all that weight for ‘The Machinist’. For Chris though it isn’t a gimmick, he really feels this and wants to push things even further than he has already done,” said an insider. “The whole AIDS thing is a real risk but he feels that the only way to get inside the mind of a dying person is to actually start dying himself. He’s not suicidal though, he’s an artist and he wants to make that clear to everyone.”
Bale dropped down to 120 pounds for his role as an insomniac in ‘The Machinist’.
“There are many stories of actors going to extremes to further their craft and turn in great performances. Even big name actors like Tom Cruise insist on performing their own stunts to further the authenticity of the film and the performance even though they really don’t need to,”
said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “I’ve never heard of a person actually giving themselves a terminal illness for a role so this could really make a mark unlike anything anyone has ever done before. I’m sure the performance will be great and his sacrifice will certainly make it into a must-see movie.”
For his role as Batman Bale reportedly dressed up in costume and fought crime across New York City. For his role in ‘Public Enemies’ he reportedly wanted to travel back in time to the 1930’s but was informed that the insurance company would not allow it.
“You can’t argue with the man’s dedication to his craft. Luckily, HIV is pretty much a chronic condition for people with money. He will have to adjust his lifestyle pretty significantly but it’s not like acquiring brain cancer or something that is more or less fatal. He can live a healthy life and have this great performance behind him,” continued
Temple. “At this point in his career Bale could just coast. He’s a star, he’s got lots of money and so he’s set but he’s decided to push things and commit to his craft and that is very rare. Kudos to him and to AIDS.”
Fellow method actor Daniel Day-Lewis reportedly could not find a doctor willing to amputate his legs for a role and recently dropped out of the project as a result.
