DMX FINALLY BREAKS OUT OF ARREST SLUMP

Phoenix, AZ – Though things have changed fairly dramatically in recent years, hip hop has been and always will be from the street. Starting in New York in the early 1970’s rap and hip hop were born in the hard streets of the Bronx eventually the 
musical form worked its way into popular culture. Even the first big hit in the genre, ‘The Message’ by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five depicted the harsh life of the mean streets of New York, accompanied by a video that would for more than a decade define the musical form.
Later artists such as N.W.A. and Geto Boys took that portrayal of life in streets to new heights but shortly after their rise and fall, things changed. The music started selling and record companies and young artists realized the potential money to be made, pushing the harsh honesty of the early example of the genre into the periphery, replacing it with talk of bling and Cristal. Hip hop though has never truly escaped its hard roots. Even in the prime of such popular rap, two of the biggest artists, Tupac and Biggie, were gunned down, proving that as much as the genre tries to escape the streets, the streets just won’t let hip hop go. Such has been the case with former chart topper who has finally broken his long drought by being picked in Phoenix on unspecified charges.
“I can confirm that Earl Simmons, better known as DMX, has indeed been arrested in Phoenix. I will not discuss specifics but I will say that he's been battling addiction for some time and he's in need of treatment. He's a talented man ... we're praying for him,” lawyer Gary Jenkins told TMZ. “It has been nearly a full calendar year since the last time he was arrested, a drought which has perturbed many of us, including DMX himself. Now that we are finally past this slump we hope to move on to a happy and prosperous 2010.”
DMX was last arrested in late May of 2009, making this one of the longest stretches he has gone since 1999, a period which has seen him behind bars at least once a year.
“Obviously it’s still early in the year but there have been many in the industry who were very concerned that something had changed. First they release a greatest hits album, and then we go months into the year without an arrest and there were a lot of people concerned that something bad had happened to him, thankfully that isn’t the case,” said Scrape TV Music analyst Dylan Chambers. “I mean it’s not like very many people care anymore but it’s still good to hear that a fellow human being hasn’t fallen into the abyss. Most of his fans have hopefully moved on and because he’s spent so much time in and out of the slammer in recent years he hasn’t been able to make new ones, but I’m sure many of those older fans will be glad to hear that he’s been arrested again.”
The rapper is reportedly suffering from drug addiction and, of course, is seeking help from Dr. Drew which may or may not keep him out of prison in the future.
“Hopefully Dr. Drew will be able to help him with his addiction but give him something else to occupy his time. Drug addictions generally don’t live long lives so it would benefit him to get over those issues and find some other way to get thrown into prison,” continued Chambers. “The worst things, the absolute worst thing, would be seeing him overcome his addictions and have nothing left to do. If that happened then people would have no way to remember him. God knows making more music wouldn’t help with that.”
DMX had been in Arizona for fundraiser which has now been cancelled and according to organizers will earn more money because of the cancellation.
