FOR THE FIRST TIME BONER IS LOST IN VANCOUVER
February 21 2010
Vancouver, B.C. – The City of Vancouver has for many years been on the cusp of being a major international city. Well respected but still very much behind the other major Canadian cities of Toronto and Montreal, the city has made great strides
towards exploiting the good will many people feel. With major Hollywood productions, increase in immigration, and most recently the Olympic Games, Vancouver has truly placed itself amongst the upper tier of North American cities.
Of course there is a dark side to the city as well. It is after all the source of much of the illegal drugs on the continent, not just marijuana but other drugs such as heroin. Areas of the city are laden with addicts and prostitutes and even in the nicer downtown areas, the homeless outnumber the habitants dramatically. Any visitor to the city and the surrounding areas during normal times will attest to the seedy underbelly that drives so much of the energy that the city possesses, something that may ultimately undo the hopes of competing with its relatively clean sibling cities. It is perhaps because of that Sodom and
Gomorrah aspect of the city that it is so surprising that a boner was finally lost in the city. Specifically the boner that has gone missing is actor Andrew Koenig who played Richard 'Boner' Stabone on the classic 1980’s television show ‘Growing Pains’.
“We can confirm that police are currently searching for a 42-year old man in the Vancouver area. We were contacted on February 17 regarding this individual who had missed his flight the previous day. He is currently listed as missing and our department is currently attempting to ascertain his whereabouts,” said Detective Raymond Payette of the Vancouver Police Department. “We have been in contact with the family of friends of the missing man and we will continue to update as new information appears. I will confirm the identity of the man as Andrew Koenig, better known as ‘Boner’ to most people.”
Boner’s family, including his father, ‘Star Trek’ actor Walter Koenig, confirmed his disappearance in the Vancouver area.
“Boner is really, for a generation, a cultural touchstone. ‘Growing Pains’ was a really big show and he was one of the most identifiable characters on it. Most people have been very disappointed with the other cast members, outside Alan Thicke, and because of his lineage and the affection people had for him, they had high hopes which have now been deflated,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “People go missing in Vancouver all the time. It’s one of the many dirty little secrets in that city. It is however very unusual for a boner to be lost. Especially now with so many people out and about, losing a boner in that city would seem almost impossible.
Hopefully he shows up because it would be a real tragedy if he didn’t show up.”
An outpouring of support from Z-list celebrities such as Alyssa Milano and fellow flight-troubled Kevin Smith has increased the attention on the missing Boner.
“It’s great that all these people who sit and watch Nick at Night have such interest in finding someone else’s boner. The majority of them may have heard of him but are not intimately involved with this particular boner so it’s great that they are making an effort to try and find him,” continued Temple. “This really has to be a first for Vancouver. It’s a month of firsts in so many ways, but this one, well this is probably the first and last boner that is ever lost in Vancouver.”
Despite the lost boner, business is as usual in Vancouver.
