INSIDER HINTS THAT PRECIOUS 2 MIGHT BE IN 3-D

April 25 2010

Hollywood, CA – Since the beginning of the film industry producers have been doing whatever they could to put people in front of that flickering screen. The vast majority of the success of the industry has been based on compelling stories, beautiful visuals, 3d glasses
and movie stars but that hasn’t stopped filmmakers from trying new tricks. William Castle was arguably the master of that discipline, frightening audiences with buzzers in their seats and skeletons flying through the auditorium. Those gimmicks however were often short lived, unlike some other tricks such as 3-D.

It might surprise many to realize that the first film ever projected in 3-D was the 1922 picture ‘The Power of Love’ which established that while the technology might be limited for the technology, the audience certainly wasn’t. Over the course of the next ninety years studios and producers continued to flirt with the technology off and on with varying degrees of success, never quite being avatar movie poster
able to nail down the tech or engage the audience in ways that would ensure long term success. That all changed in 2009 with the release of ‘Avatar’ which
revolutionized the format and, in becoming the most successful movie ever, proved that and audience certainly existed. Now with the 3-D revolution in full swing and every movie wanting to cash in even movies that might not be seem to benefit from the format, such as the sequel to ‘Precious’ which might very well be in the format.

“Everyone involved wants a sequel. The studio, the producers, the director, and all the actors are aboard. They had a great time making the movie and were thrilled with the reception that it received and so it was only a matter of time before the sequel talk started up,” said a Hollywood insider. “Obviously the content makes it a little tough but that has never stopped this town before. Right now there are a couple of writers hashing out a story which of course will be much bigger but the real debate is whether or not the movie will be in 3-D, something everyone wants. It’s really just a matter of available screens right now.”precious movie poster

All of the major studios have announced plans to either film new movies or retrofit existing ones to play in three dimensions since the success of ‘Avatar’.

“Getting a story that will appeal to a wider audience is a priority to everyone involved. They really feel like they caught lightening in a bottle with that first picture and they want to not only explore that universe but also ride on the success. This thing is happening,” continued the insider. “The director, Lee Daniels, has a couple of other projects lined up right now and will do at least one of those before the ‘Precious’ sequel more than likely which will give them time to work on the script and hopefully allow more 3-D screens to be built.”

Major films such as the upcoming Harry Potter films and ‘Tron 2.0’ have already pre-booked many of the available 3-D screens. precious movie gabourey sidibe

“Making a sequel to a harsh drama like this is going to be inherently tricky. Taking the story of an HIV infected, teenage mother of two from an abusive background and opening up that world the way a sequel needs to do is going to be a creative challenge to be sure,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “Add to that the spotlight it is going to be under especially when it releases in 3-D. The pressure is really going to be on for all people involved but at least they will have that extra dimension of advantage, so-to-speak. It’ll certainly be interesting to watch but I predict it will be huge.”

Precious herself Gabourey Sidibe is expected to benefit the most when the picture goes 3-D.
