MICHAEL JACKSON EXPECTED TO BE A NO SHOW AT APOLLO HALL OF FAME CEREMONY

April 10 2010

New York, NY – There are legends, and then there are legends. Michael Jackson and Aretha Franklin are in that latter category. Those two musicians are emblematic of an era of music that may be gone forever with talent increasingly falling behind image in michael jackson
importance. Though Jackson in particular became far larger than his music in the latter part of his career, in the early days his talent was undeniable and it is those days which the Apollo theater has decided to honour.

Both stars whose careers began in the heyday of the Apollo will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on June 14 alongside other luminaries such as Smokey Robinson, Quincy Jones, and James Brown. Franklin, whose hits include ‘Respect’ and ‘Chain of Fools’ will be in attendance at the ceremony but Jackson, who died suddenly last June, will not be appear at the induction. Though death frequently prevents major stars from attending performances, many believed that Jackon, who was arguably the biggest music star ever, would somehow overcome the shackles of the beyond to put in an appearance but now that does not seem to be the case. Though the presentation will go on as scheduled, it’s apollo theatre
believed that Jackson’s absence will cast a large shadow over the ceremony and potentially harm the festivities.

“I really don’t expect MJ to show up. It would be great if he did and the producers have told me that they are trying very hard to make it happen and it would be great but I’m not going to hold my breath for it. It’s a big challenge,” said actor Jamie Foxx who will host the ceremony. “Aretha is the Queen and I’m really excited to see her in her element but the capper would be to have MJ there as well. The bonds of life and death are fragile and are they are thus far only impregnable by the holy. MJ was the king, but not the king of kings which makes it very difficult for him to overcome death, but it would be great.”

Franklin’s performance is also tentative on her ability to fit through the front door.michael jackson performing 1993

“Michael Jackson was a once in a lifetime performer, truly a legend and one could argue that his early works, particularly ‘Off the Wall’ and ‘Thriller’ were miracles but they were a long time ago. Coming back from the dead would be something simple for that Michael Jackson, but for the one that he became it’s a slightly different story. I don’t imagine we will be seeing him there,” said Scrape TV Music analyst Dylan Chambers. “There’s no doubt that it would have made the ceremony and been great not only for fans but also for music, but I just don’t see it happening. Of course if he were there it would overwhelm the meaning of the occasion, what with the whole resurrection thing being so rare.”

There have been no verifiable resurrections in the real world though messiahs such as Christ did reportedly rise from the grave, as do zombies in film. aretha franklin

“There is also an serious risk at bringing anyone back from the dead, even someone famous who most people assume would behave themselves. The first of course is playing with nature and arguably the will of God, but the more serious issue would be whether or not this living dead thing would spread,” continued Chambers. “Having a great show would mean a lot and would be a great thing for the fans, but if it also inspired a ‘Dawn of the Dead’ style zombie apocalypse we would really have to question the value. ‘Billie Jean’ is still a great song and to see it performed live one last time would be fantastic but it’s hardly worth the total destruction of human civilization.”

Franklin is currently being trucked in from her home in California and is expected to arrive in time for the ceremony.
