RUSSELL CROWE DOESN'T BEAT UP ANYONE AT CANNES PREMIERE OF ROBIN HOOD
May 13 2010
Cannes, France – It’s been a long and strange road for Russell Crowe. Born in New Zealand, he moved to Australia at an early age where he realized his love for the family business, show business. Like fellow Australian tough guy Mel Gibson, Crowe had
dreams of Hollywood stardom despite that city being thousands of miles and an ocean away. However, Crowe followed his dream and persevered in small domestic productions before finally making a move to Hollywood. It wasn’t long before he had success there, accumulating true star status and an Academy award in the process.
Crowe’s personality hasn’t been confined to the big screen however. Like many stars before him his personal life and personal behaviour have been a focus of the media and oftentimes he has been more than willing to accommodate the gossip hounds. A high profile relationship with Meg Ryan and a number of violent outbursts have given the actor a reputation as a bit of wild man, something that in recent years has started to abate. Ever the tough man on screen however Crowe’s reputation has persisted, resulting in many awkward interviews and denials. However it appears to many observers that despite the reputation, Crowe truly has changed as evidenced at the premiere of his latest film ‘Robin Hood’ where he didn’t beat up or threaten anyone.
“I was very nervous when I heard he was going to be staying at our hotel. Normally we do not know in advance which stars will be at our location but the management decided to make an exception in this case because of the danger of the situation,” said a concierge who preferred that his name and hotel remain anonymous. “He was actually quite pleasant to everyone. I was more than a little surprised by this fact. The last time he was in Cannes, so I had heard anyway, he beat three people and threatened to kill the family of another but there was nothing like that here. He was cordial and pleasant. An ideal guest.”
Similarly, Crowe apparently had no incidents during his entire stay in the city, something echoed by people over the last few years.
“Perhaps age has mellowed him. The reputation as a tough guy was well earned but

that has really fallen away in recent years. Correct that, the reputation has stayed but the incidents haven’t. Ever since that incident where we threw the phone at the concierge in New York the reports of incidents have been few and far between,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “I mean who knows how that affected him and his behaviour. It was undoubtedly an embarrassing incident because he got into so much trouble but that doesn’t explain everything away. He had no such guilt with his other fights. It appears that as he approaches fifty he has calmed down a bit which is good news for hotel workers around the world.”
A new book about the rise and fall of the Dreamworks movie studio documents an incident where Crowe threatened to murder a producer on the film ‘Gladiator’ which he apparently did not go through with.
“Many of these incidents can be attributed to impish charm, even the New York incident which had an unfortunate outcome but was really just a temper tantrum gone awry,” continued Temple. “Murder is a slightly different thing and that would likely have derailed his movie career. Aside from the legal implications, it would have been very difficult to find a producer willing to work with him after that. Luckily for everyone he appears to at least be going through a calm period. Let’s hope it stays that way, for the good of hotel workers across the world.”
Crowe’s next film ‘The Next Three Days’ is currently in post-production. He is believed to not have beaten anyone on that set.
