SMASH MOUTH TO START COMEBACK WITH PERFORMANCE FOR THE QUEEN

San Jose, California – There isn’t a child of the nineties that doesn’t have a fond place in their heart for Smash Mouth. With hits such as ‘Walking on the Sun’ and ‘All Star’ the surf rock band was one of the biggest successes of the decade, but like
many of their peers, the band has largely fallen into obsolescence. While success for any band isn’t guaranteed for the long run, Smash Mouth has kept pushing on producing four more albums since their last big hit over a decade ago.
Even a devastatingly low sales reception to their album ‘Get the Picture’ (33,000 units sold) didn’t kill the enthusiasm of the band members and now, with all members well into their forties, their determination to get back to the top remains as strong as ever. Though scant on details, rumours continue to persist that a new album is on the way and now the band has announced that they will mark their return to spotlight with a very high profile performance. Lead singer Steve Harwell made the announcement that they will performing for Queen Elizabeth later in the year at a private ceremony specifically requested by the monarch. It’s not clear if that performance will coincide with the release of the newest album.
“We’ve always known that the Queen is a fan of our music. I remember way, way back when she requested a signed copy of ‘Fush Yu Mang’ and has been asking for them ever since so I guess it makes sense that she wanted us to perform for her,” said Harwell, now able to speak again, his jaw fully healed. “When she asked us to perform we were more than happy to. She had read that we were working on new material and she wanted to be the first to hear it, as well as help us get back on the world stage again. She’s really a great person to have as a fan, as are all of our fans.”
It’s not clear when the band will be performing for the monarch. Buckingham Palace did not reply to our queries.
“It’s really been a long time since the band was a big hit, like over a decade, and like most people I just assumed that the members were dead, or might as well have been. I saw Harwell on ‘The Surreal Life’ a few years back, when they released their last album, but I had imagined that he had shuffled off somewhere and died in a drunken stupor but I guess that isn’t the case,” said Scrape TV Music analyst Dylan Chambers. “I mean it’s okay that they are alive and everything it’s just surprising, and I’m a guy that follows music. Sometimes the world just rises up and smacks you in the mouth, which in this case is totally appropriate. Good for them, keep on keepin’ on.”
It’s believed that former members of the band have in fact died as a part of ritualistic murder that has been touted by the band in many of their songs.
“This thing with the Queen, well that’s a little surprising as well. I’m sure she’s a fan of music but you would have thought something from the forties, like big band, or perhaps Mozart. Something a little more in tune with her age and her position, but if it’s Smash Mouth then that’s what it is,” continued Chambers. “You have to wonder how American audiences will react to this and whether or not it will do anything to re-launch their career. They have a very specific sound that likely has limited appeal across the pond, and for anyone born after 1990 which make up a huge chunk of the music buyers. Guess it’s worth a shot at this point.”
Smash Mouth’s new album is not expected to be any good.
