WORLD SAVED ONSLAUGHT OF POISON AFTER BRET MICHAELS RELEASED FROM HOSPITAL
May 5 2010
Phoenix, AZ – For a person suffering from a major illness or injury there is perhaps no better a phrase than the five words that make up ‘expected to make a full recovery’. Hospitals are at the best of times oppressive places that reek of illness and

death and for many of us the memory of things preferred left in the past. Even with things like birth and miraculous recoveries happening in those buildings, the awfulness overwhelms even those great times.
For Bret Michaels, the former lead singer for eighties glam band ‘Poison’ and current reality television star, that trauma is something very much close to the bone at the moment having spent weeks inside a Phoenix facility after having suffered a near-fatal brain haemorrhage. Now Michaels has been released from that medical prison with doctors predicting that he will make a full recovery. While that news is no doubt great news to the singer and his family as is the case with any celebrity illness his fate was watched by millions. Fans no doubt hoped and prayed for a recovery of the man who sang many of them to man and woman hood but even casual celebrity watchers appeared happy that the singer was able to stave off death, sparing them from endless tributes and looping Poison songs.
“I really expect that he will fortunately make a 100% recovery. He's just one of those lucky people, the 20% or so who have a subarachnoid hemorrhage who make a complete recovery and are able to resume all of their normal activities,” said Dr. Joseph Zabramski, Michaels’ surgeon. “He has an unbelievable fight in him and told me what kept him alive at the moment of the hemorrhage was that he 'did not want his family to wake up and see him lying unconscious in the middle of the floor.”
Michaels was admitted on April 22 while suffering massive head and neck pain as well as disorientation and slurred speech. Extended tests were unable to uncover the cause of the bleeding.
“These kinds of ailments are oftentimes extremely devastating. Death happens almost
instantly in a percentage of the cases and for those who survive there is generally severe trauma. Basically what happens is blood flows around the brain and presses against it which causes damage to the brain, sometimes killing sections, which results in decreased abilities for the patient,” said Scrape TV Medical analyst Dr. Phillip Waites. “Full recoveries are the abnormality. It’s very rare for a person to come away from one of these ailments completely unharmed and with no deleterious effects. I wouldn’t go so far as to call it a miracle but it certainly is lucky and a blessing, for all of us really because people go a little crazy when a celebrity dies, particularly a musician.”
Last summer’s big death, Michael Jackson, led to major tributes, a concert film, and a massive resurgence in his music. Such activity was believed unlikely for Michaels but his death likely still would have caused a lot of irritation.
“Obviously Poison doesn’t have the fan base that Michael Jackson has but many people have a great deal of nostalgia for the band which would have led to a whole lot of radio play. This has the effect of bringing more people in, even those who had no connection the music, which could have caused a major disruption. Look at the death of Natasha Richardson as an example of a person’s fame in death outstripping their fame in real life,” continued Waites. “That would have happened with Michaels particularly because of his recent exploits on TV which would have caused a great deal of social disruption and been potentially very harmful to people who would otherwise be oblivious to Poison. Hopefully he continues to do well and have a long and healthy life from here on out.”
Experts are torn but it’s believed that ‘Unskinny Bop’, ‘Talk Dirty to Me’, and ‘Every Rose Has Its Thorn’ would have been the principal choices for radio stations and news outlets. The band’s label had no comment on the recovery.
