CAMERON DIAZ MOST DANGEROUS CELEBRITY ON AND OFF THE BIG SCREEN
August 25 2010
Hollywood, CA – Cameron Diaz is really an unlikely movie star. When she first hit it big in the hit movie ‘The Mask’ it was clear that alongside beauty the girl had charisma and possibly some acting talent that could make her into a star. She was quirky
though with a laugh equal parts charming and obnoxious and an ungainly personality that could irritate as many people as it engaged. However a movie star was exactly what she became and in very short order.
There were some missteps after her breakthrough role but the one-two punch of ‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’ and as the eponymous lead in ‘There’s Something About Mary’ Diaz became a true movie star, a headliner able to command huge salaries and make entire movies happen just by her involvement. For a quirky former model it was a pretty good gig and quite a surprise for many, however lately things haven’t been so great. Outside her voice in the Shrek films Diaz’s recent career has been met with a number of flops, the biggest of which was the recent shoulda-been-a-hit ‘Knight and Day’ in which she starred alongside Tom Cruise. To add to that misery comes word that she is now the most toxic celebrity in the web world with searches for her name the most malignant and malware-ridden of everyone in Hollywood making her toxic just about everywhere.
“It's a simple fact. The bad guys read the same news as the good guys. Dangerous searches relate to the news of the day. We're not saying stay away from searching for celebrities like Cameron Diaz. We're saying be aware of the broad use of their names, and know that criminals are looking for a way to social engineer you, and this is the type of attack they'll use,” Dave Marcus, Director of security research and communication for McAfee told ComputerWorld. “We realize that this seems like an odd occurrence much like last year when we saw Jessica Biel at the top. We believe this is large part due to where the spam is coming from, primarily China and Eastern Europe, places that are just now receiving DVD’s from the early 2000’s.”
Brad Pitt was the highest ranked male star, though he is still very much a bankable name throughout the world.
“I mean I guess it’s a good thing she’s back on the top somewhere, I mean that’s something, but it’s likely not where she would have dreamt of being. I’m sure there are young girls out there who are imaging their future lives as stars who wouldn’t have a problem being at the top of the list but I doubt that Diaz sees it the same way,” said Scrape TV Technology analyst Ken Kevins. “It’s an awfully strange person for the spammers to choose but then again they are criminals, not rocket scientists. They may have guile but intelligence is something else entirely and that is something they seem to be lacking.”
‘Knight and Day’ has done well internationally but was considered a flop in North America.
“Megan Fox would be the first person I would think of if I was doing this type of thing. Hell, there are dozens of names who would make more sense. Perhaps though it is the demographic they are pursuing. The older the audience the more likely they will click on something that will infect their computer. I’m sure older people still like Cameron Diaz,” continued Kevins. “Otherwise it just really doesn’t make sense. This won’t help her career any I can tell you that, unless of course she decides to get into spam.”
The first ‘Transformers’ film will be released in eastern Europe in about five years at which time Megan Fox will likely not be a star in any way.
