EXTORTION CHARGES AGAINST JOHN TRAVOLTA DROPPED
September 6 2010
Nassau, Bahamas – There can be no greater trauma for a parent then the experience of losing a child. While there are certainly deep emotional factors that create such feelings, there is something deeper, something deeper in the human
experience. We are in the end breeding machines. Our principle purpose in life, just like every other species on the planet, is to create a new generation, to perpetuate the species. Complex human emotions aside, the loss of offspring goes against our essential nature, it goes against what we were built to do in life.
Because of that trauma no one would wish such an experience on anyone, never mind someone who has spent their entire lives dedicated to making other people happy. Such was unfortunately the case for John Travolta who last year lost son Jett. Though Travolta has been in recent years much of a joke there wasn’t a movie goer in the world who didn’t sympathize for him and his family when he lost his first born. Much of that affection was a result of the prominence of Travolta and the intermittent joy he has brought to moviegoers in films like ‘Saturday Night Fever’ and ‘Pulp Fiction’. That empathy was further extended when word came that two people had tried to extort the family in relation to Jett’s death. Now though the trial has ended with Travolta dropping charges and now comes word that the two men have also dropped their own charges against the actor.
“We received word early yesterday that the charges against my clients have been withdrawn at the request of the Mr. Travolta. This is the sensible conclusion to this case and we thank Mr. Travolta and his family for acting in this way,” said a lawyer for the accused. “As an act of good faith we will also be dropping our charges against Travolta and his management team. We feel that enough turmoil has occurred in this case and we no longer wish to continue with the fight. We wish Mr. Travolta the best.”
Travolta stated: “It was finally time to put this matter behind us ... I concluded that it was in my family's best interest for me not to voluntarily return to the Bahamas to testify a second time at trial.”
“This was really a sad case all around and cased a lot of heartache for everyone involved. Obviously there was a lot of sympathy for the Travolta’s but people tended to ignore the other victims in all of this, the people facing charges. These people rely on things like extortion and pilfering to survive and they felt they had hit the motherload this time only to face prison time,” said Scrape TV Legal analyst Gabe Hawthorne. “For the rich and famous The Bahamas is a beautiful getaway but for the people that live there life isn’t all gold cars and throwaway socks. Life can be hard in that country and people need to do what they can to survive.”
There were two other people investigated in the case but those charges were dropped.
“The core of the charges against Travolta was that he had, by filing charges,
deliberately infringed on their ability to make a living. That he was essentially taking money out of their pockets and, by denying them the ability to fleece Travolta and other celebrities, people have been stealing from them,” continued Hawthorne. “It’s a complex argument but in The Bahamas it is legally viable. The country does operate with basic British rule of law but have adapted it to their own needs. The begging law is widespread throughout the Gulf islands but this is the first time it has been brought to bear in such a prominent case. I guess this is the end of the test.”
Travolta was reportedly ‘relieved’ that the charges were dropped.
